Carmen Electra just shared major insights into her "fast and furious" relationship with the late singer, Prince, on the 10th anniversary of his death. The Baywatch actress and the "1999" singer dated for a year in the early '90s. Now, Carmen, 54, "will always hold a place" in her heart for Prince.
The Scary Movie actress shared a video of Prince playing the guitar alongside Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, and Jeff Lynne and wrote a lengthy caption.
"At first, we were friends, but fell in love fast and furious," Carmen wrote. "U were my everything I mean everything but u hurt me deeply, and I hurt u back as I was too young to understand how to communicate my feelings at the time."
"But that's all behind us now and I still love u!" she added. "Some go to soon, just like u, but I will always hold a place in my heart for u, as if I didn't leave u, who knows what the future would've held for us, who knows! I love u, we all love u, peace and be wild."
Fans of both Prince and Carmen chimed in on the post, sending their condolences to the actress. One person wrote: "Beautiful tribute, Carmen. Thanks for sharing (he is certainly loved and missed)!" Another person added: "This made me cry reading this. My heart is with you today."
Inside Carmen Electra and Prince's relationship
Born Tara Leigh Patrick, Carmen was Prince's muse and it was the "Purple Rain" singer who gave her the name "Carmen Electra." During a 2023 conversation with Vanity Fair, the actress shared about the moment she met Prince.
In 1991, Carmen moved to Minneapolis and met him at his home after Robin Power spotted her in a nightclub in LA. She described Prince as "mysterious" when he first saw him standing in a doorway.
Robin was casting a Prince-produced all-girl band at the time, and Prince invited her to perform vocal exercises. But then he left a note asking her to watch movies. "I wanted to be in this band, but I didn't want to have an intimate relationship," she told the outlet. "I didn't feel that for him."
But, Carmen didn't make the band. Instead, she lived with Prince at his infamous Paisley Park mansion in Chanhassen, MN and recorded songs as a solo artist. Not only did the singer give Carmen advice on her career, but he commissioned a photo shoot and hung pictures of her all over the Park.
"It was over time that I fell in love with him," she said. "He was very soft-spoken, very kind, very funny…But Prince, we do know, was very controlling with artists and his own music…He started giving me music he wrote for other people. If I had known, I would have said no."
After a year of battling it out with the other women who occupied Prince's bed, Carmen decided to move out of Paisley Park. At one point, she was "pretty much homeless" and had to call the "Little Red Corvette" singer for help.
But by 1997, Carmen was a multi-time cover model on Playboy, starring in Baywatch alongside Pamela Anderson, and was in a tumultuous relationship with NBA star Dennis Rodman. No matter what, all these years later, Carmen will always love Prince.
