Kate Hudson is continually inspired by her mom, the iconic actress Goldie Hawn. Kate, 47, opened up about how she was impacted by the many things Goldie "fought for” throughout her career.

At age, Goldie has worked in Hollywood for nearly 60 years and paved the way for women in the industry today. There's no one else who understands that better than Kate.

"I grew up with an amazing mother," the Running Point actress explained during a conversation at the Time100 Summit on Wednesday, April 22. "[She] was the first female star in Hollywood to really set out to produce her own movies."

But what really impressed Kate about her mom was her drive "to fight for everything.” From a young age, the Song Sung Blue actress thought fighting for what you want was "just how you [did] things."

In Goldie's house, she raised her kids to strive for their wildest dreams. "I didn't realize how that kind of confidence is seen from another perspective," Kate explained.

Goldie Hawn's groundbreaking career

Goldie started her career in Hollywood embodying a stereotypical "dumb blond." But, she was anything but. The Oscar-winning actress revolutionized Hollywood for women when she became a producer in the 1980s.

The first film Goldie produced was Private Benjamin, a comedy about a sheltered woman whose husband dies on their wedding night. The year it was released, Private Benjamin was one of the biggest box office hits and was spun off into a short-lived television show.

For her portrayal of Judy, Goldie was nominated for her second Oscar and the door to produce more films in the industry opened. After producing Private Benjamin, she went on to produce Protocol, Wildcats, Overboard, Bird on a Wire, My Blue Heaven, and The First Wives Club.

And, in 1997, Goldie made her directorial debut with the television film, Hope.

In a 2015 interview with the Harvard Business Review, Goldie revealed that she never felt like she was paving the way for other women.

"I had ideals, and I had my own work ethic," she explained. "If you have a sense of yourself, your mission, your belief system, those things will lead you to success. If I did it to pave the way for other people, my intentions would have been clouded.

Like her mom, Kate is a jack of all trades. Not only is she a mom of three, she is also a two-time Oscar nominated actress, has released a studio album, and is the co-founder of the billion dollar company Fabletics.

On why she works in many types of industries, Kate simply told the crowd at the Time100 Summit: "I'm an Aries. I get bored." But through it all, Kate knows that she wants to be as present in her kids' lives as Goldie was in hers. "I want to be home, with my kids."
