Craig Melvin has opened up about how his weekend morning routine differs from his weekday schedule, when he's in Studio 1A filming for the Today Show. During the April 24 broadcast of the NBC show, the hosts discussed their caffeine habits.
The news anchor was asked by the expert correspondent whether he is a "coffee guy". "I am, just one cup in the morning," replied Craig. "What happens when you skip it?" asked his guest, to which Craig replied, "I do get a little, you know."
Craig Melvin hinted that when he skips his morning coffee, he feels the effects almost immediately, most notably an increased likelihood of a headache. The expert went on to explain that if you're a regular coffee drinker, skipping caffeine can increase your chances of experiencing a migraine.
"So caffeine is tricky. It can actually treat headaches, migraine medicines have caffeine," he shared. "But for people like you and I, who have caffeine every morning, you skip it one day, I think we all know what happens."
The NBC host then revealed that he doesn't drink coffee on the weekends when he's at home with his kids. "That makes a lot of sense, because on the weekends, I don't have as much coffee and often, and especially on a Sunday morning, I'm like what's that [points to head].' So I should keep drinking coffee throughout the week," said Craig.
Dylan Dreyer then chimed in on the conversation to deliver a playful joke. "There's also kids too on Sunday mornings," she said. "That's true," replied Craig.
Craig's family life
Craig and his wife, Lindsay Czarniak, met while both working at NBC Washington, with Craig enlisted as a news anchor in 2008 and Lindsay boasting the title of sports anchor. The pair tied the knot in 2011 with a wedding in Washington D.C. – the city where they met – at the Church of the Holy City. They later welcomed their son, Delano, in 2014, and their daughter, Sybil, in 2016.
According to Realtor.com, the family's home in Connecticut is worth an estimated $6.2 million and with six bedrooms and a whole host of amenities, it's not surprising. While Craig is from Columbia, SC, he relocated to Westport, CT, from Washington, DC, almost a decade ago when he joined Today.
During the April 23 episode of the show, Craig was joined by his son in the studio to celebrate National Bring Your Kids To Work Day. "My son Delano woke up early, very early," said Craig.
