First Lady Melania Trump and Queen Camilla teamed up for a joint engagement following Tuesday's ceremonial welcome. The duo made their way to the White House Tennis Pavilion for an educational event attended by students, including state champions from the Presidential AI Challenge, launched by the first lady last year.
The group used AI-enabled glasses to learn about American history and the Special Relationship by reviewing artifacts, including a portrait of John Adams and bust of Winston Churchill, from the White House Collection and the National Archives and Records Administration. The first lady tried on a pair of glasses, while the Queen declined to put one on.
Melania was asked during the engagement how she was doing following Saturday's shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. "Very well, thank you," she replied.
At the end of the event, Melania presented the children with a Presidential Challenge coin, while Camilla gifted them the book War Horse by Michael Morpurgo.
The event on Tuesday afternoon aligned with Mrs. Trump’s Fostering the Future Together initiative, a global coalition of nations committed to enhancing the well-being of children through the promotion of education, innovation and technology. This past March, the president of the United States' wife convened representatives from 45 nations for Fostering the Future Together's inaugural meeting.
Since returning to the White House, the first lady's work has centered on children, education and technology. Mrs. Trump's senior advisor Marc Beckman has previously told HELLO!: "Her mission is laser focused. If you look at what she does over and over and over again, it's children, education, technology, children, education technology, over and over and over again, domestically and internationally. That's it. So this way she becomes a lot more impactful."
The first lady and President Donald Trump greeted the King and Queen on Monday after the royals touched down in the states. The two couples enjoyed tea in the Green Room followed by a tour of the newly unveiled White House Beehive, during which Melania and Charles were pictured sharing a laugh the King and Queen returned to the White House on Monday morning for a ceremonial welcome. After the royal couple left the White House ahead of Charles' address to Congress, the president told reporters: "He's a fantastic person. They are incredible people. It's a real honor."
