Chet Hanks is worth between $1 million and $3 million, but he has swapped his LA condo for an unexpected way of living instead.
The Running Point actor, 35, revealed his unique living situation during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday.
While promoting the second season of the hit Netflix show, Chet confirmed that he recently relocated to a "trailer park" in Nashville to pursue a career in country music.
"I didn't want to get an apartment because I literally just got a condo in L.A. and I furnished it," the son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson explained.
"I didn't want to do that again and I didn't want to furnish it. So I was, like, staying in Airbnbs and hotels and that gets really old because I just like having my own space."
After being inspired by a recent road trip to Carmel-by-the-Sea in California, Chet returned to Music City and bought a "trailer."
"I stayed in an Airstream trailer and I really loved it," he said. "I was like, 'Man, I want one of these…' So I did. I got a trailer."
© Getty ImageWhile Chet didn't splurge on an Airstream, admitting he is "not there yet," he's "really happy" with his choice of a Jayco Eagle.
The actor explained how his mobile home as "everything I need. I got my kitchen. I got, you know, a walk-in shower. That's a big deal with trailers, if it's a walk-in shower, because sometimes they combine the toilet and shower. It's called a wet bath."
© InstagramHe also refuted claims that living in a "trailer park" is "sketchy." He explained: "I'm probably, like, the youngest person in the trailer park by like 30 or 40 years.
"It's not what you think, you know? You think, oh, you're gonna live in a trailer park. It might be a little sketchy. It might be a little dangerous. It's all just, like retirees, you know? Great people."
© InstagramChet admitted he is fully embracing his new minimalist lifestyle and taking full advantage of the park's amenities.
"I do have a campfire outside of it. I have a fire pit and I have used it," he said. "But most of the time, I just do exactly what I do at home, which is just stay inside and lay in bed and watch Netflix and things like that."
© InstagramChet – born Chester – is one of four children raised by Oscar-winner Tom, who also has a 30-year-old son, Truman, with his wife Rita. The Forrest Gump star is a father to fellow actor Colin Hanks, 48, and 43-year-old daughter Elizabeth from his first marriage to Samantha Lewes.
Tom and Samantha went their separate ways in 1987 after nine years of marriage. They remained on friendly terms up until she died in 2002. Samantha passed away aged 49 after being diagnosed with terminal bone cancer at a routine check-up.
