Meryl Streep considers Goldie Hawn "one of my buddies" now, but the actress didn't always feel so warm and friendly towards her.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 star, 76, confessed that she had "beef" with her Death Becomes Her co-star while they were filming the cult black comedy, directed by Robert Zemeckis, in 1992.

Meryl admitted she became frustrated with Goldie because she frequently failed to show up to set on time, while Meryl was always punctual.

"Goldie, she was always late to set," Meryl revealed to Vanity Fair on Thursday. "And I'm always on time, you know, and annoying. But she's late."

She continued: "She had a red convertible, I remember, and she'd drive herself to set. And so that was probably the problem. She'd drive herself to set.

"She had her hair all over. She's like, 'Oh gosh, sorry!' And everybody thought, 'Oh, she's so cute.' Yeah, so I had a beef with her."

Despite the tension, Meryl said that the duo had "a great laugh" shooting the film and insisted that she "loves" Goldie and they remain friends today.

Death Becomes Her follows frenemies Madeline Ashton (Meryl) and Helen Sharp (Goldie), who vie for the same man's affections (Bruce Willis) while dealing with the consequences of drinking a magic potion that promises eternal youth.

The film earned $149 million at the global box office and won the 1993 Oscar for Best Visual Effects, as well as a Broadway musical adaptation.

"Over the years, we've had some laughs about that movie because people love it," Meryl reflected. "I thought it was like a documentary on Beverly Hills."

Meanwhile, Meryl is back on screens in The Devil Wears Prada 2, portraying the fearsome editor of Runway magazine, Miranda Priestly, alongside Anne Hathaway as Andrea 'Andy' Sachs and Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton.

Stanley Tucci, Runway's art director Nigel Kipling, has also returned for the sequel, alongside Tracie Thoms as Andie's best friend, Lily, and Tibor Feldman as Elias-Clark chairman Irv Ravitz.

Some new faces have joined the lineup, too, including Kenneth Branagh as Miranda's new husband and Patrick Brammall, who will be Andy's latest love interest. Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, and Pauline Chalamet also star.

The sequel follows Miranda "as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and as she faces off against Emily's character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Miranda desperately needs."

The Devil Wears Prada grossed $326 million at the worldwide box office and was nominated for two Academy Awards – for Meryl as Best Actress and Patricia Field's Costume Design.

The original film was based on Lauren Weisberger's book of the same name, which was published in 2003 and spent six months on the New York Times bestseller list.

The character of Miranda is said to be inspired by Vogue's Anna Wintour, whom Lauren previously worked for as a personal assistant.
