The one celebrity banned from the Met Gala — and the ones refusing to ever return

Hundreds of your favorite celebrities attend the famous fundraiser every year, but there is a handful that have vowed it's not the place for them

The Met Gala is famously among some of the most exclusive parties in the world, with Anna Wintour long running an uber-strict program when it comes to its guest list.

The former Vogue editor-in-chief famously controls nearly every aspect of the annual fundraiser, including, of course, its guest list.

However, though there have long been rumors that there is a set of people that are banned from the Met Gala, there is in fact only one person that has been publicly confirmed to be actually banned from attending the event: none other than Donald Trump.

Here's what Anna herself has said below, and who else you shouldn't count on ever seeing on those Met steps again.

The former reality show star is the only person who is outright banned from ever attending the Met Gala, confirmed by Anna herself; he attended a handful of times from 1985 to 2011, both with first wife Ivana Trump and third wife Melania Trump

While appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2017, Anna was asked by host James Corden who she would "never invite back" to the Met Gala, to which she swiftly replied: "Donald Trump," getting an immediate applause from the audience.

The Project Runway alum is the only other person that will reportedly never get an invite again, though only per his own words, not Anna's. Speaking on E! in 2016, he said it is "very true" that he was uninvited from the Met Gala, explaining: "It is a crazy story, and as far as I'm concerned it's a very matter of fact story."

"I was asked, 'What is the most unforgettable thing I’ve ever seen in fashion?' And I said, 'It's easy. It was watching Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards, two big hulking men, from a fashion show,'" he went on, adding that "all hell broke loose" after he shared the story, and that they have been in "an open war" ever since.

Tina isn't necessarily on Anna's bad side or by any means banned, but she has voluntarily vowed to "never" attend the Met Gala again after going for the first and last time in 2010. Calling it a "jerk parade" five years later during an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, she recalled: "If you had a million arms, all the people you would punch in the whole world are all there," confirming: "Clearly, I will never go again."

The former One Direction member is another famous face who has opted out of ever attending the Met Gala only once, with former girlfriend Gigi Hadid in 2016. Two years later, he told GQ: "The Met Gala is not necessarily anything that I ever knew about or was about," adding: "Now, it's not something I would go to. I'd rather be sitting at my house, doing something productive, than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet.… To do the self-indulgent, 'Look at me, I'm amazing' thing on the red carpet, it's not me."

As for this year specifically, New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani broke precedent with past New York City mayors, many of whom have previously attended the party, and confirmed last month that he would not be attending the city's premier event. "I love the Met. I think that it's an incredible museum," he told Hell Gate, however maintained that he and his wife Rama Duwaji wouldn't be attending, as usual emphasizing that he is focused on the issue of affordability in the city.

He still however honored fashion's biggest night by taking to Instagram and highlighting the people who "keep the industry running," New York City garment, retail, and warehouse workers.
