The season finale of Boston Blue premieres on Friday, May 22 and fans already can't wait for more Reagan drama in season two.

The Blue Bloods spinoff follows Danny Reagan, played by Donnie Wahlberg, after he was transferred to the Boston Police Department (BPD). Boston Blue premiered in October 2025 and was already renewed for a second season. Keep reading to get the latest updates on season two of the "compelling" CBS show.

When is Boston Blue coming back with a new season?

Boston Blue is returning for season two in late September 2026 or early October 2026. The announcement was made at the end of 2025. "These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera that make these series truly stand out," said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment.

Will Tom Selleck appear in season two of Boston Blue?

Tom Selleck starred Police Commissioner Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods for 14 years until the series concluded in December 2024. Appearing as the patriarch of the Reagan family, Tom acted alongside Donnie, Will Estes, and Bridget Moynahan, meaning his character exists in the Boston Blue world.

But, it isn't likely that Tom will appear in the spinoff show.

Tom had a legendary run on Blue Bloods

"I don't know if I would do Boston Blue. That's another show," the actor told Hour Detroit in November 2025. "I think it's partly my lot in life to make sure Blue Bloods has its place in television history, but I don't think it's my lot in life to keep playing Frank Reagan."

Who will return to season two of Boston Blue?

The lead of the show, Donnie, is excited to return to the set of Boston Blue. And he was lucky enough to tell the rest of the cast about the renewal. "I had the pleasure of calling all my cast mates and telling them… that we were getting a season two," Donnie told People in March 2026.

"Suffer the Children" Danny and Lena take on a high-stakes murder case that leads to one of Boston's most infamous unsolved crimes. Meanwhile, tensions rise within the Silver family as a complex shooting case sparks debate over accountability and parenting, on "BOSTON BLUE," Friday, Nov. 14 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*© CBS via Getty Images
Maggie Lawson stars as Detective Juliet "Jules" O'Hara in Boston Blue

"And I did it, and every cast member got tears in their eyes, every single one of them, and so did I," he continued. "And when I called [my wife] Jenny [McCarthy] and told her about that, we shared a nice cry."

While Jenny isn't starring in Boston Blue yet, Sonequa Martin-Green, who is returning as Lena Silver, told UsWeekly in April 2026: "I'm always texting with Jenny and Donnie’s always texting with [my husband] Kenric [Green]. So we have this really interesting four part friendship going on, which is growing and it's really sweet. But we talk about Jenny coming on the show all the time."

BOSTON - AUGUST 6: "Pilot" BOSTON BLUE stars Donnie Wahlberg as he reprises his role as NYPD detective Danny Reagan in a universe expansion of the long-running top drama BLUE BLOODS. The Silver family is comprised of Boston district attorney Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben), Boston PD detective Lena Silver, police superintendent Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson), rookie cop Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner) and renowned Baptist pastor Reverend Edwin Peters (Ernie Hudson). As Reagan settles into his new city, he also hopes to reconnect with his younger son, Sean (Mika Amonsen), who is beginning his own career in Boston.© CBS via Getty Images
