The FIFA 2026 World Cup has officially kicked off (pun intended)!

The latest edition of the global football tournament opened in Mexico City with the first of three opening ceremonies before Group A's Mexico and South Africa faced off for the record-breaking kick-off match; three red cards were handed out, the most in any opening game.

This year's tournament is being hosted by three countries – Mexico, the United States and Canada – between 16 cities.

The second opening ceremony will take place on Friday, June 12 in Toronto, Canada, with the third following later in the day in Los Angeles, America.

Follow along for all of the top updates from the three opening ceremonies, with the first headlined by a host of acts including J Balvin, Burna Boy, and Shakira
