Bad Bunny's halftime show performance for Super Bowl LX will likely go down in history as one of the most entertaining and powerful.
The 31-year-old Grammy-winning rapper brought several memorable moments to the stage, from a collection of hits, to surprise guests in Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin, to tender moments like presenting his younger self with his Grammy and shouting out all the countries in the Americas.
Above all, his central message rang loud and clear: "The only thing more powerful than hate is love." And that was especially embodied in one of the show's most viral moments, during which a wedding ceremony took place on stage.
While many quickly took it to be a more literal symbol of love through an act, it turns out that the ceremony was an actual wedding, with the couple in the show getting married for millions to see.
As Gaga came out to perform a Spanish-inspired version of her hit "Die With a Smile," she then joined Bad Bunny in a dance to his hit "Baile Inolvidable" about five minutes into the show, with the wedding ceremony then taking place beside them.
After the show, however, a representative for the rapper confirmed to Associated Press that the wedding was indeed real. It was stated that the couple had invited the "Tití Me Preguntó" hitmaker to their own wedding. The bride wore a Becoming Jane dress from Hayley Paige.
Instead, Bad Bunny (real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) invited the couple to get married on the Super Bowl stage at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California on February 8. Their ceremony featured a real officiant, with the singer's rep confirming that he also acted as their witness and signed their marriage certificate.
The couple were later revealed to be Thomas "Tommy" Wolter and Eleisa "Elli" Aparico. The pair have been together since 2023, announcing their engagement in October of 2024. Tommy is a registered nurse, but little is known about Elli. Tommy later wrote of the moment on Instagram: "An unforgettable dance with the love of my life. Cannot thank @badbunnypr enough for this beautiful opportunity of a lifetime."
The officiant for the ceremony was Antonio Reyes, a pastor in South Sacramento who works with the organization Project Church. He shared a glimpse of the moment on social media. "Now that the secret has been revealed…," he wrote in Spanish.
"It was an honor for me, as a Latino and a follower of Jesus, to be present at such a historic moment. I have more to share with you."
His wife Gabby similarly posted about the moment with the caption: "[CRYING IN SPANISH] PROUD WIFE MOMENT! Words can't express how grateful we are for this experience."
"I already know this man is amazing and today just proves it," she penned. "Every Sunday we pray together before he goes to speak on stage. Today was no exception, however the stage was a little different."
While the official viewership numbers for the Super Bowl and halftime show aren't in as of writing (early reports place it somewhere between 135-140 million viewers), the game proved a triumph for the Seattle Seahawks, winning their second ever Super Bowl title. They defeated the New England Patriots 29-13.
