She was the geography student who often attended lectures alongside Prince William at the University of St Andrews, prompting speculation at the time that a royal romance might be developing.

However, in reality, it's believed Bryony Daniels was helping to deflect attention from William's growing relationship with fellow student Kate Middleton, allowing the future Prince and Princess of Wales to spend time together away from the spotlight.

Now 43, Bryony has shared some joyful personal news of her own. Taking to social media, she announced her engagement to Adair Williams, the nephew of the Duke of Sutherland.

Sharing a cutting of the formal announcement in The Telegraph alongside the sparkling ring, Bryony said: "Holding tightly to the necks trap @a_g_w_w #kickon #thehuntisover #engagement #summertime Happy birthday @paulinedaniels21 #atlast xx."

It appears the original announcement was made in November, with the bride-to-be sharing a series of photos from the proposal, which took place in October.

She wrote: "My heart's in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer Chasing the wild deer, and following the roe. My heart's in the Highlands, wherever you will go."

According to the Times, the Suffolk heiress was among those invited to join Prince William and his then girlfriend Kate for a pre-Christmas shooting party on the Queen's estate at Sandringham prior to their marriage.

Bryony now works for Liquid OPM, a firm that organises events ranging from product launches to wedding celebrations. Adair, meanwhile, holds a PhD in fluid dynamics after first earning a degree in mechanical engineering.
