Congratulations are in order! Scarlette Douglas is engaged after a surprise proposal in London. The A Place in the Sun presenter believed she was attending a 30th birthday party, but instead arrived at a candlelit rooftop terrace where her partner Kyle Murray had planned the proposal.
High above the city near Tottenham Hale, Scarlette was greeted by a red carpet and an intimate setting - the result of months of planning.
Speaking exclusively to HELLO!, the 39-year-old opened up about the details of the special moment, her "loud and proud" ruby engagement ring, and revealed why she is already fast-tracking plans for a sun-soaked destination wedding.
"I thought maybe it was going to happen the following week in Vegas for my birthday or on our year anniversary in June," she told HELLO! of the surprise.
"We had spoken about it, and my partner knows how much I love birthdays, but I guess that would have been too obvious, so for him to have done it beforehand really did surprise me. Normally, I'm good at sensing things but I had no idea."
Scarlette's ruby engagement ring
The star, who met fitness instructor Kyle, owner of Funkee Fitness, last year, also shared details of her striking engagement ring - a piece she says perfectly reflects her personality.
"The ring is so me! It's a ruby with lots of smaller diamonds. I have always wanted a ruby - a ring that stands out and goes against the grain," she explained. "I had given him a rough idea of what I would have wanted and he commissioned a jeweller who I had worked with before to design it especially."
For Scarlette, the choice of gemstone was deeply personal. "I've just always wanted to be different," she shared. "My name is Scarlette and I love reds and pinks - this ring is so me and encompasses the colours perfectly.
"All of my friends and family say it represents me so well; loud, proud and full of style! It's definitely a talking point as it's not the norm for an engagement ring but it is absolutely perfect for me."
Family reaction
Unsurprisingly, the happy news has been met with an outpouring of love from those closest to her.
"They were so surprised and very quickly over the moon! Everyone knows I’ve had a bad run of partners and everyone loves Kyle," she revealed.
"I've never seen my family so happy. My brothers and parents did a speech and they all said how happy, proud and excited they are for us and our next chapter."
Why Scarlette is planning a Jamaica wedding
And while the couple are still enjoying their engagement bubble, plans for the big day are already well underway.
"Yes, wedding plans are fully in motion. We do know that we want to get married in Jamaica as both sets of parents were born there," she said. "It's such a beautiful country and we know that the weather will be perfect."
Future together
Looking ahead, Scarlette says she is most excited about building a future together. "Just enjoying each other, engagement life, the blending of two beautiful, loving families - and at some point starting our own family," she shared.
"Kyle is the most supportive partner I've ever had and knowing we get to build a life together excites me more than I ever would have expected." Despite their whirlwind romance, the presenter is certain she has found the one.
"We've officially been together for nine months, which some people will say isn't long at all," she mused. "But when you know, you know - and I've never been so certain about anything in my life."
