Athletic romance and rivalry are popular topics right now, especially for those watching the hit sports-romance series Heated Rivalry on Paramount+. Some of these couples are essentially real-life versions of the characters played by Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, who star as major-league hockey players facing off on the ice. These real-life tales truly mirror the fictional drama!

US snowboarders Red Gerard and Hailey Langland are a power couple who have been together for eight years. Ice dancing duo Madison Chock and Evan Bates turned their sporting partnership into romance in 2017. Having first started dancing together in 2011, their friendship blossomed into love, and the couple married in Hawaii in June 2024. Speaking to People in January 2026, Evan discussed their growth: "Skating is our means of strengthening ourselves and our relationship. Going through all the life experiences together has only increased our appreciation for the partnership." Entering their fourth Olympics together as three-time defending world champions, they are seasoned pros to watch on the ice.
Both competing in skeleton – one of the Winter Olympics' oldest sports – this couple represent different countries. Nicole Silveira competes for Brazil, while Kim Meylemans represents Belgium. The pair first met at the World Cup and married in January 2025. Although the newlyweds went head-to-head at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, skeleton is not a direct combat sport, so they will not be competing side-by-side on the track.
Montreal ice hockey players Marie-Philip Poulin and Laura Stacey are role models for aspiring athletes. After meeting in 2017 as teammates, they married in September 2024. Laura told the CBC of her partner, the captain of the Montreal Victoire: "The world knows her as the best hockey player in the world, but they don't know her as the best person in the world as well." Both possess a fierce competitive streak and are looking to lead Team Canada to gold.
Freeskiers Ashley Caldwell and Justin Schoenefeld first met after the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. Representing the US, the couple won gold in the Olympic mixed team aerials in 2022. They celebrated an epic "ski wedding" 8,500 feet up in Park City, Utah, in February 2025.

6. Brittany Bowe and Hilary Knight
Team USA stars Brittany Bowe and Hilary Knight had their first date at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Recalling their meet-cute, three-time Olympian Brittany told Team USA: "We had crossed paths so many times through Team USA events, but never really more than a quick hello." Now living in Salt Lake City, this will be their first Olympics as a couple, with Hilary captaining the women’s ice hockey team and Brittany competing as a speed skater.

7. Emily and Dominik Fischnaller
Luge athletes Emily Sweeney (USA) and Dominik Fischnaller (Italy) are heading to this year’s Olympics as newlyweds. After dating for 15 years, they married in May 2025. This Games holds special sentiment for both. For Dominik, the reigning men’s singles bronze medallist, it will be his fourth Olympics, while for Emily, it will be her third.
In a real-life Heated Rivalry moment, ice hockey players Ronja Savolainen and Anna Kjellbin are set to face off. Ronja, a two-time bronze medallist, plays for Finland, while Anna makes her Olympic debut for Sweden. Though they play for different nations and opposing PWHL teams, they have been dating for five years and became engaged in 2024.

IIt is Jocelyn and Brett's first Olympics as a married pair

After becoming a curling duo in 2016, sparks flew off the rink and the pair married in June 2022. The couple, who share a son named Luke, are representing Canada. This marks their second Olympics as individuals, but their first as a married couple on the ice.
Another curling twosome, Norwegian Olympians Magnus Nedregotten and Kristin Skaslien have been together since 2011 and competing in mixed doubles since 2012. Married for seven years, they already share two Olympic medals between them and are chasing gold in 2026.
Since meeting at the Alpine Ski Racing World Cup in Chile, this couple have represented different teams. Mikaela Shiffrin represents the US, while Aleksander Aamodt Kilde competes for Norway. Sadly, Aleksander announced on 3 February 2026 that he will miss these Games due to the lingering effects of a back injury. Describing Mikaela as his "rock" in a recent interview, he will instead be cheering her on from the sidelines as she competes.
Heading to their first Olympics together as fiancés, Team USA bobsledders Hunter Powell and Kaysha Love met at the University of Nevada. Originally track and field stars, Kaysha convinced Hunter to switch to bobsledding. They got engaged in July 2025 and are now ready to take on the track together.
This stunning Italian ice dancing pair has been skating together since 2009.
