America's uncrowned prince and a real-life Princess once convened at The Carlyle. John F. Kennedy Jr. and Princess Diana met at the New York City hotel in the summer of 1995. According to PEOPLE, JFK Jr. was hoping, at the time, to get the British royal to pose for the cover of his magazine, George, which he launched in September that year.

Per the outlet, the meeting lasted over an hour and took place in the Princess' suite. In the end, it didn't pan out. RoseMarie Terenzio, John's executive assistant, previously told PEOPLE that Diana wrote him a note that read: "Thank you so much, but not right now."

The son of the 35th president of the United States reportedly later told his colleagues about his meeting with the Princess, and even praised her legs "He was very careful what he said," George magazine creative director Matt Berman previously told PEOPLE. "The one funny thing he said was, 'She's got a great pair of legs.'"

Meanwhile, RoseMarie recalled JFK Jr. describing Diana as "really tall!" RoseMarie also remembered that John "said she was very shy," adding: "He was surprised how demure she was. I think they had both met Mother Theresa so they spoke about that. And he said how lovely she was."

Prior to the meeting, John was said to have been concerned about paparazzi and someone leaking it. "I had remembered that the last time I had been to the Carlyle for an event, there had been no photographers at the front entrance," RoseMarie said to PEOPLE. "So I told John, ‘Don’t go in the side entrance, because if anyone does leak it beforehand, people will expect you to go in the side. So walk in the front door.'"

JFK Jr. ended up walking in through the front of the iconic hotel, while "all the press was on the side door!"

In the 2018 documentary Always at The Carlyle it was revealed that JFK Jr. used to visit the hotel's restaurant "all the time" and sit at "table 29 with rollerblades." He is even said to have had his last breakfast there, the day he took the plane to go to Martha's Vineyard with his wife, Carolyn Bessette, and her sister Lauren Bessette.

The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel is also a favorite among royals. The Prince and Princess of Wales famously stayed at the hotel during their first joint visit to New York City in 2014. Jennifer Cooke, director of communications for the hotel, said in the documentary Always at The Carlyle that William and Catherine, "I think definitely stayed here at The Carlyle because Princess Diana used to stay here, and she was very fond of this hotel, and I know they had heard about it. I heard him [William] say that in the lobby that he heard so much about this hotel through the years and they were really happy to be here."

In addition to members of the British royal family, the luxury hotel, located in New York's Upper East Side, has been visited by royals from Denmark, Greece, Spain and Sweden.
