When the Hallmark Channel first lit up screens in 2001, we couldn’t have predicted that it would become the undisputed home of small-town romances, cosy Christmas hits, and 10-film strong mystery series that captivated viewers. Alongside the network’s reputation for feel-good flicks, many of its stars became familiar faces with viewers, and became just as iconic and beloved as the films themselves.

From the network’s original Christmas stars to the Hollywood duo you might not know helped launch one of Hallmark’s biggest mystery series, here’s what the channel’s original stars have been getting up to since their debut – and the Hallmark flicks you might recognise them from.

Long-time Hallmark fans will remember the beloved Mystery Woman series (2003–2007), which brought us 11 films starring Kellie Martin as a bookstore owner-turned-crime fighter. One of the network’s first big franchises and the start of their popular Hallmark Mystery channel, Kellie was no stranger to leading hit series, having previously starred in the medical drama ER (1998–2000).

A Hallmark leading lady through and through, she later fronted the network’s Hailey Dean Mysteries series (2016–2019), with fans ecstatic to see her back solving secrets and riddles on-air. The actress also recently lent her expertise behind the scenes, directing the Lifetime movie Mistletoe in Montana (2021), and is a familiar face on Instagram sharing snippets of her past work with over 70k followers.

Back to the Future star Lea Thompson became another familiar face on the Hallmark Mystery channel, starring as a mother with a double life in all nine of the Jane Doe films (2005–2008). Bringing endless ‘80s star power back to the screen, the series was one of the network’s biggest hits alongside Mystery Woman, and Lea became one of Hallmark's original familiar faces.

She later went on to star in a more festive offering from the network, Next Stop, Christmas (2021), and is currently appearing in their popular TV series The Chicken Sisters (2024–) alongside Wendie Malick

Speaking to Woman’s World about what drew her to the feel-good show, the actress said: “I like projects that put something positive into the world. I like to create things that make people laugh or think about what it’s like to walk a mile in another person’s shoes.”

The dynamic duo teamed up to solve a series of crimes in the network’s four-part film series Murder 101 (2006 –2008), and were even joined by Barry’s kids in guest-starring roles.

Dick recently turned 100, prompting fans to reminisce on the star’s unrivalled film and TV career; “My son, he and I love to work together,” Dick previously shared, per Us Weekly, describing the pair as “like Laurel and Hardy”. Barry also went on to appear in another Hallmark flick, Strawberry Summer (2012), opposite Shelley Long.

The actress later appeared in further Hallmark hits like Come Dance at My Wedding (2009) and Keeping Up with the Randalls (2011). “It’s fast-paced and has some real energy,” Roma told Series & TV of the latter film, following a fashion designer trying to win over her boyfriend’s family. Emmy-award winner John Larroquette, who previously starred in the sitcom Night Court (1984–1992), took on the lead role of LA lawyer Mike McBride in the 10-film series McBride (2005–2008). The show went on to join many of the aforementioned mystery series in Hallmark’s “Mystery Wheel”, a rotation of crime-solving flicks that were constantly on air for fans, and the cosy legal series remains a favourite today.

“There would be a two-hour movie every three or four weeks,” he told TV Insider. “It was a great opportunity to explore a character so deeply because of the length.”

The actor most recently reprised his role as Dan Fielding in the Night Court revival (2023–2025), once again returning to his well-honed on-screen legal career.
