Charlotte Riley has offered a rare glimpse into her private life with husband Tom Hardy, revealing the simple rule that helps keep their family life running smoothly. In a candid new interview with The Times, the 44-year-old actress opened up about balancing their careers while raising their young children - and why the couple deliberately avoid working at the same time.
"We tend not to work at the same time because that makes life easier," she shared.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2014, are parents to two children. Their first was born in 2015 and their second in 2019. Meanwhile, the MobLand actor is also a proud dad to his eldest son, Louis, 17, from a previous relationship.
Charlotte, who is set to star in a six-part BBC series Babies, also revealed that she prefers to stay close to home while her children are still young, ensuring a sense of stability for their family.
Despite having two high-profile parents, their children are largely kept away from the world of showbusiness. "It's not a massive part of their lives and we never wanted it to be," she explained.
Instead, the family enjoy spending quality time together in creative ways. "We do a lot of painting together as a family," Charlotte shared, offering a rare insight into their home life.
"The kitchen is like an art studio, full of art materials and big canvases. There are clay sculptures."
Describing their relaxed, collaborative approach, she added: "One of us will start, somebody else will come in and add to it. Sometimes we spend hours, sometimes they don't get touched."
Tom and Charlotte are fiercely private when it comes to their family, and it's not often that either of them discusses their personal lives in interviews.
In fact, they've been so successful in protecting their family that no details, including names and photos of their two children, have been shared in the public domain.
