The 'naked dress' is a trend that seems to have an equal amount of fans and critics, with one famous Hollywood actor jumping in to defend his girlfriend recently after she came under fire for her exposing dress at Hollywood's biggest night of the year. Tom Blyth, of People We Meet on Vacation fame, was quick to defend his girlfriend Daniela Norman's appearance after her daring Vanity Fair Oscars party dress was described as "vulgar" by an online troll.
Tiny Pretty Things actress Daniela, 30, arrived for the star-studded after-party in Los Angeles on 15 March in a sheer Giorgio Armani slip dress that was embellished with beading all over, exposing her bare chest and underwear on the red carpet. Tom, 31, posted a collection of photos from the event on social media, to which one fan commented: "He looks handsome and elegant, but his girlfriend, on the other hand, looks incredibly vulgar, dressed completely inappropriately for the occasion."
Tom told the fan to "shut the [expletive] up", and said Daniela "wore a dress that she was excited by and she looked EXQUISITE in it". Fans applauded the actor's pointed response, with one praising: "Now that’s a MAN [clapping emoji] get em tom". Another told the actor: "You’re right, she looks EXQUISITE."
© FilmMagicThe Hunger Games star later went back and edited his post caption to say: "Feeling blessed by the excellent dogs, dawgs and nipples in my life". Meanwhile, others praised Daniela's dress as "absolutely stunning" and "effortlessly breathtaking" and said they both "look fabulous".
Tom and Daniela's private romance
It's already been a big year of romance for Tom after starring in the popular Netflix adaptation of Emily Henry's People We Meet on Vacation rom-com. He played one half of the friends to lovers couple, Alex and Poppy, opposite My Lady Jane actress Emily Bader. But off-screen, the actor has found love with fellow screen star, Daniela, who is also a trained dancer and is best known for the 2020 Netflix drama series, Tiny Pretty Things.

From sheer fabric to carefully placed lace, the 'naked dress' has taken on many forms on red carpets over the years. The trend has proved an enduring one, with A-listers from Margot Robbie to Dakota Johnson and Lily Allen all putting their own twist on the look last year alone.

And the 'naked dress' has continued its red carpet reign in 2026 with The Night Manager actress Camila Morrone wowing in a black lace top and a matching maxi skirt, which purposely exposed her stomach and underwear beneath, for the premiere of her new Netflix series, Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen, earlier in the month.
