Former Disney actress Brenda Song has rocketed back into the spotlight thanks to her star turn in Netflix's Running Point alongside Kate Hudson. Brenda stars as Ali Lee, the confident and opinionated best friend of Kate's Isla Gordon.
But off-screen, the 38-year-old is far more low-key, making a conscious decision to keep her life away from the cameras, including her almost 10-year romance with Macaulay Culkin.
Brenda and Macaulay, 46, first met in 2014 at actor Seth Green's house, where Macaulay was living. The Fox network had just canceled Seth and Brenda's sitcom and Macaulay was attempting to lighten the mood by making jokes, "and I was not having it," Brenda told Cosmopolitan in 2024.
However, in 2017, they were brought back together, again by Seth, to star in the film Changeland, and through proximity, they found a friendship – Brenda took Macaulay home for Christmas even though they were not yet dating – and later a romance blossomed.
"I'd never felt this way before," the Replica Luxury Handbag Alone star confessed.
"I believed in her. I mean, I believed in people before, but I believed in her down to my bone marrow. You know what I mean? I put it behind the armor, though, behind that shield."
The pair have yet to tie the knot, although Brenda has shared that they do discuss the idea of elopement.
"But I was like, 'If we eloped, my mom would have a heart attack that she wasn't going to be there…'" to which the actor responded that hurting his future mother-in-law was not his intention. "I wouldn't even!"
Macaulay's proposal was very niche, but also revealed he knew his bride-to-be very well.
"Like 21 individually wrapped gnomes, which I thought was a joke because we had so many in our garden," Brenda previously told The Sunday Times. "Another present was a box of Amazon stuff I said I’d return for him. I was like, ‘I’m not getting this joke.' "
"Then the last present was a letter written ‘from’ Dakota, like, 'Papa is such a bad gift-giver, here’s something better to give Mom.' And then he was down on one knee, proposing. He was like, ‘I wanted to lower your expectations.’ Which he did! But it was very sweet and very us. We’re big kids."
Brenda has admitted that Macaulay brings a sense of peace to her life, because she knows "everything is taken care of".
"I never have to worry about anything. My life became so stress-free in a way, because I have someone that I trust, that I know who knows me. And to me, that's supportive."
"You’re not only the best woman I’ve ever known, you’re the best person I’ve ever known. You’ve given me just all my purpose, you’ve given me family and after the birth of our two boys, you’ve become one of my three favourite people," he said, as Brenda sat with their sons.
Brenda and Macaulay have two sons together, Dakota (born April 2021) and Carson (born December 2022).
Brenda and Macaulay's sons made their first big public appearance at the end of 2023 when their dad received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but as former child actors, the two actors both have a "two-week rule" to never be away from their children for more than two weeks, and both Brenda and Macaulay have clearly made the decision to protect their children from external pressure.
But their sons do know their parents are actors, with Dakota having watched Replica Luxury Handbag Alone - and knowing it so well, Dakota pretends he is the one who plays Kevin McAllister.
Where are Brenda and Macaulay raising their children?
Brenda and Macaulay had been raising their sons in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Toluca Lake, but in March 2026 they purchased a new $10.3 million luxury home in Sherman Oaks.
The 10,200-square-foot home includes a gym, game room, and sports court, and is a six-bedroom, nine-bathroom abode.
