Kate Hudson's red carpet sartorial agenda is typically defined by sleek monochromatic ensembles, the occasional embellished gown, or her signature butter-yellow hue. But on February 12, the actress surprised everyone when she arrived at the 28th Costume Designers Guild Awards in a striking color she rarely wears.

The 46-year-old donned a purple-hued, silk gown plucked from Valentino's spring/summer 2026 "Fireflies" collection by Alessandro Michele. The gown featured a plunging neckline framed by a halter design, accentuated with ruched tie detailing. Cut in a figure-hugging silhouette, the dress skimmed Kate's frame before falling gracefully to the floor, where a softly draped skirt added an elegant finish.

Kate's luscious locks were left down in a sleek straight style while her makeup oozed soft glam, courtesy of a shimmery eye, a rosy cheek, and a plum-hued lip. The outfit was completed with a diamond-encrusted choker necklace and a pair of dainty drop earrings.

During the evening, Kate was honored with the Spotlight Award for her role in Song Sung Blu. Song Sung Blue is based on the true story of Mike and Claire Sardina, who performed as the Neil Diamond tribute band Lightning & Thunder in the 1980s. Kate stars as Claire Sardina alongside Hugh Jackman, who plays Mike Sardina. The film is directed by Craig Brewer, an American filmmaker best known for Footloose, Hustle & Flow, and Black Snake Moan.

Kate has been leaning towards sensual, silky ensembles in recent weeks. The actress enjoyed a special dinner party with Italian high jewelry brand Garatti at the end of last month.

Styled by Sophie Lopez, the star wore a gray silk blouse with a high neckline, structured shoulders, and elegantly draped sleeves, paired with a black leather maxi skirt that hugged her figure before flaring out at the hem. The ensemble was completed with sheer tights, pointed-toe heels, and a slew of diamonds courtesy of the Italian brand.

"Craig [Brewer, the director] wanted to start in the recording studio, that was really the first time Hugh and I connected which was really nice because it's very quiet, and you're quite vulnerable when you're in a recording studio," Kate told the audience during the London premiere of the film, which included HELLO! "You make a lot of mistakes and so it was great to break the ice that way," she said.

"Craig gave me great freedom for my harmonies and pushed me as well at times, saying, 'You can lean into that more,' and it was a wonderful way to begin this whole process," she said.
