The Princess of Wales enjoys wearing all types of jewellery. From glittering, priceless heirlooms that come from the royal vault, to her famous sapphire engagement ring and even her £10 Accessorize earrings, Kate has an enviable collection of finery.

So when she steps out in a new piece, everyone notices. On Thursday, the mother-of-three did just that when she headed to Lambeth Palace to meet the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury.

Wearing a head-to-toe brown ensemble, consisting of a midi dress by Edeline Lee, a coordinating coat by Catherine Walker, and matching stilettos by Gianvito Rossi, nestled on her neck was a gorgeous heart-shaped gold chain by Daniella Draper, known as the 'Gold Keeper's Heart Trace Chain Necklace'.

Kate's necklace was engraved

This dazzling design, which costs £1,555, was such a romantic piece and nods to the most romantic day of the year, Valentine's Day, which is just around the corner. The brand offers a personalisation service, and true to form, as Kate walked throughout the visit, eagle-eyed onlookers could see it had been engraved.

Some have speculated that the necklace could have been gift from husband Prince William

Although it hasn't been noted what it actually says, it seems like it could be a gift, perhaps from her doting husband, Prince William. After all, it was Kate's birthday last month, and the heart-shaped design supposedly "symbolises love and connection".

Margot Robbie has relaunched the heart necklace trend

Heart-shaped jewellery has been in the news this week, thanks to Margot Robbie. The prolific actress, who is the star of the new Wuthering Heights movie, went all out for the world premiere, where she stepped out in a strapless black and red ombré gown with lace bodice detailing from Schiaparelli.

Margot wore Elizabeth Taylor's Cartier Taj Mahal necklace

Although the high-fashion, billowing gown was nothing short of show-stopping, her heart-shaped necklace really stole the show. Fitting in with the gothic, romantic theme of the film, Margot's Cartier Taj Mahal necklace was previously owned by the one and only Elizabeth Taylor. The iconic actress was gifted the design on her 40th birthday from Richard Burton.

How to style a heart-shaped necklace like Princess Kate's

Soru

Heart necklaces like this design from Soru have never been more in style

"Heart necklaces are officially having their fashion moment right now, although they are nothing new and have long been a symbol of romance and sentiment," fashion stylist and podcaster Ellis Ranson tells Best Quality Designer Handbag .

Edge of Ember

Layering heart necklaces, like this Edge of Ember number, is a modern take on the trend

"We are seeing them becoming part of our delicate everyday outfits, creating balance. The symbolic shape can be styled against structured tailoring, sharp coats, or minimalist silhouettes," the host of the Talk In Wardrobe podcast adds.

"Think fine gold heart pendants worn over knitwear or layered subtly with clean chains for a high-low feel. We are even seeing the hearts in colourful styles too," she notes.

Ottoman Hands

This vintage style pendant from Ottoman Hands nods at the romantic trend

I think a necklace like Kate's really thrives if you're wearing a neckline that shows off a little decolletage, like a sweetheart neckline or a V-neck.

A heart necklace is a keepsake item, so you can afford to be daring in which one you choose. For smaller styles that can be layered with other pieces, this dainty number by Edge of Ember is an ideal, subtle piece.

If you want to go full-on romantic like Margot's vintage piece, this Soru heart necklace charm can be worn with any chain you may have and offers a chic pop of colour with its red colourway. Embedded gems always look glamorous, and this heart pendant from Ottoman Hands features pretty etchings and a blue crystal detail encased in the centre.
