Kate, 44, made an address alongside William, 43, to mark St David's Day, the feast day of Wales, in a video shot at Frogmore House on the Windsor Replica Luxury Handbag Park estate. The princess looked fabulous in a bright red houndstooth dress by Alessandra Rich, which featured a V-shaped neckline, dramatic Chelsea collar, long sleeves, and a pleated skirt.
The shin-skimming number also featured black buttons down the front for a retro look and a dropped waist. As identified by Royal British Fashion on Instagram, it's a piece from Kate's archive that was last seen in 2021 when she visited the Victoria and Albert museum in London to mark its reopening to the public following the COVID-19 lockdown.

On this prior occasion, the royal, who held the title Duchess of Cambridge at the time, styled the printed garment with black buckle-adorned Jennifer Chamandi heels and the 'Bayswater' clutch by Mulberry.
For her St David's Day address, the royal's shoes were hidden, but she did add the 'Trinity Earrings in White Gold, Yellow Gold & Rose Gold' by Cartier for an extra glamorous touch.

Kate styled the dress with Jennifer Chamandi heels
Not only did Kate brush up on her Welsh to mark St David's Day, but Sian Clarke of Styled by Sian tells us that her outfit also pays homage to Wales on this special day.
"Beyond the symbolism, the look also quietly communicates strength and confidence for the year ahead"
Kate chose to re-wear her dress (seen here in 2021) as red is one of Wales' national colours
"It felt incredibly symbolic seeing the Princess of Wales choosing to wear red [one of the country's national colours] as a clear nod to her role representing Wales," Sian says. "But beyond the symbolism, it also quietly communicates strength and confidence for the year ahead.
"The print is definitely busier than what she usually gravitates towards – and I really love seeing her step into something more experimental for this moment," the stylist continues. "It brings out a more playful, creative side to Kate that we don't always see."
Sian also comments on the V-shaped neckline: "She doesn't often opt for open necklines over her signature higher ones, but this works beautifully. It softens the boldness of the red print and adds an elegance that keeps the whole look feeling chic rather than overwhelming."
Overall, Sian says that the dress works because it balances professionalism, passion, and personality.
Kate wore houndstooth to visit the children's mental health charity Anna Freud
Though Kate's Alessandra Rich dress is perhaps her boldest look, it isn't the only houndstooth garment in her wardrobe. In November 2025, the royal visited the children's mental health charity Anna Freud at the Anna Freud Centre in London, wearing a pale blue midi style by Emilia Wickstead.

The figure-skimming dress featured a high neckline with a collar, as well as a belted waist, and was paired with the 'Small Hudson' bag by luxury British brand DeMellier and snakeskin grey heels. She first wore the dress while visiting Harvard University in 2022.
