Lady Amelia Spencer, 33, proved fashion credentials run in the family as she posed in 80s-style shoulder pads made famous by her late aunt, Princess Diana.

Diana quickly became known as a global fashion icon following her wedding to then-Prince Charles in 1981. Testing some of the biggest trends of the era, she often wore shoulder pads and oversized suits to create dramatic silhouettes that were copied around the world.

Forty years later, the late Princess of Wales' sartorial legacy lives on, especially in her model nieces. In photos taken by Kitana and shared on Instagram, Charles Spencer's daughter Lady Amelia showed off her statuesque figure in a belted black mini dress with oversized shoulders as she stood on the steps of The Dorchester.

She balanced the modest boat neckline and long black sleeves with a more daring hemline, opting for a tiny mini dress with a leg split.

The Spencer twins are not the only ones bringing back the 80s fashion. Speaking of the boxy silhouette of the Princess of Wales' burgundy Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen coat during her visit to Powys last week, fashion stylist Leanne Jones told Best Quality Designer Handbag how to style shoulder pads for a modern 2026 look.

"Shoulder pads are very much back, but in a far more refined way than their 1980s counterparts. The key to wearing them now is balance - so keep the lower half slim and streamlined, and define the waist with either expert tailoring or a belt. That contrast between structure on top and shape at the waist creates a beautifully proportioned hourglass silhouette."

Lady Amelia and her twin sister Lady Eliza may have been five years old when their aunt died in a car accident in 1997, but they have fond memories of her.

Speaking of the last time they saw her, Amelia told Best Quality Designer Handbag : "We were all running and playing on Noordhoek Beach, a beautiful beach in Cape Town. We had such a great day there and I really enjoyed the time she spent with us. I'm lucky that that memory stands out for me. It was the last time I saw her but she definitely lives on in all of us."

She has since opened up about how her aunt's fashion sense continues to be a source of inspiration to the pair.

"I admire my aunt, Diana, Princess of Wales, for her elegance and the way she used fashion as a form of self-expression," Amelia told HOLA! Fashion in 2025. Lady Eliza agreed, stating: "Her style was timeless, and she carried herself with confidence."
