9-1-1 star Peter Krause has lined up a new project in NBC drama Protection – and it's the next big spy drama you'll want to know about.
The appointment comes amid a wave of NBC pilot castings this week, which have also seen David Boreanaz, Damon Wayans Jr. and Emily Deschanel land leading roles in other pilots.
Protection marks another collaboration between Peter and NBC after he played Adam Braverman in family drama Parenthood, starring alongside Lauren Graham and Dax Shepard.
The series comes from creator Josh Safran (Quantico, Gossip Girl) and follows Secret Service agent Mike, described as a "blue-collar" government worker whose "life of the party" attitude has landed him in a few sticky situations.
What is Protection about?
According to Deadline, the show's synopsis reads: "When a U.S. Marshal falls in the line of duty, a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into a deadly conspiracy as a family of law enforcement agents becomes the target of a mysterious assassin.
"Bridging personal differences and crossing professional boundaries, the Thornhill family must use the expertise from a lifetime of protecting civilians and politicians to protect one another and bring the killer to justice… even if it means betraying their sworn code."
Who stars in Protection?
So far, only Peter has been confirmed for the cast. He'll play former Secret Service agent Mike Thornhill who, after leaving his previous role behind, turns his expertise to a new job as an assistant director of intelligence.
What has Peter Krause starred in before?
Protection is the latest project to join Peter's impressive résumé, which includes Six Feet Under, Sports Night, The Truman Show and Beastly.
The Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actor most recently starred as Bobby Nash, former captain of LAFD Station 118 and on-screen partner of Angela Bassett, in the detective drama 9-1-1. Peter appeared on the procedural from 2018 to 2025 before making a dramatic exit when his character contracted a fatal haemorrhagic fever.
Speaking to Good Morning America about his exit, Peter said of Bobby: "He was willing to sacrifice himself so that others could see another day. And I will miss everybody dearly."
"This was my workplace, for eight years, eight seasons. And I am really going to miss everybody: Angela and the fire team and the crew."
