Princess Kate's 'privately expressed' concern about Princess of Wales title – and inevitable Diana comparisons

Kate Middleton, The Princess of Wales started being known as the Princess of Wales in 2022, following the death of the late Queen. She was the first royal to hold the title since her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, with Queen Camilla instead being the Duchess of Cornwall before her husband ascended to the throne.

The Prince or Princess of Wales title is typically held by their heir to the throne and their spouse.

William and Kate took the titles on 9 September 2022, a day after the late Queen's death with Charles saying: "Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty.

However, Kate was initially reluctant to take on the title, with the Mirror's royal editor Russell Myers writing about the royal's hesitation in his new book, William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story.

Here's what he said.

Never-before-seen letter from Queen Elizabeth II

According to a report published by The Telegraph, drawing made by the late Queen Elizabeth II have been discovered under a bed, with artwork including drawings of dogs, horses, children and more, alongside a handwritten note that was addressed to Beatrice Stillman, the head housemaid at Royal Lodge in Windsor.

The letter also refers to Jock, who is understood to have been one of the Queen's ponies, and Marion Crawford, her nanny at the time.

The full note reads: "Dear Beatrice, I am sending you some primroses we picked, wild. There are some pale pink ones as well as the yellow. It is very lovely here. We can go down onto the beach from the garden.

"I hope the birds are well, and the goldfish haven’t died. Will you please give Cootie (Miss Coote, I mean) and Mrs Wade some of the primroses to share. Jock is very well and happy here. Nanny and Joanna send their love to you. Love from Elizabeth," the future Queen concluded.

Could Andrew face life in prison?

Last week, Thames Valley Police confirmed it was assessing claims that Andrew shared secret reports from his UK trade envoy role with Epstein, with King Charles stating he would support any investigation.

The maximum sentence, if found guilty, is life imprisonment, if a serious breach of responsibility was found to have been committed.

How long can the police hold Andrew?

The longest the police can hold Andrew for is 96 hours, according to policing commentator Danny Shaw, who appeared on BBC Radio 5 Live today.

Shaw told the radio station that the absolute longest Andrew can be held for is 96 hours - but this would require multiple extensions from senior police officers and a Magistrate's Court.

According to the BBC, Andrew will be placed in "a cell in a custody suite" with just "a bed and a toilet", while he waits for his police interview.

Shaw said that "there'll be no special treatment for him".
