The Bill was one of the most popular shows when it aired between 1984 and 2009, and the classic ITV show continues to air classic episodes, which still attract fans to this day.

Despite its ever-changing cast, one of the show's stalwarts was Sergeant June Ackland, who first appeared in the show in its pilot episode. The character was played by Trudie Goodwin, and she remained on the show until 2007, breaking records for the longest time an actor had played a police officer.

Speaking to the BBC following the show's cancellation, she expressed her surprise, saying she had "been in a state of shock all day because [I] honestly thought [it] would go on forever, and [I was] very very sad that it isn't going to".

Five years before landing her breakout role, Trudie walked down the aisle with her husband, Kit Jackson, and together they have welcomed two daughters, Jessica and Elly.

But did you know that the star's youngest daughter is incredibly famous? Here's all you need to know about her and their relationship…

Elly Jackson

Born in 1988, Elly is the lead singer of the Grammy Award-winning synth-pop group La Roux, providing the vocals. Elly initially worked with producer Ben Langmaid, and the pair's debut album was a major success, especially with its singles In for the Kill and Bulletproof.

Although Ben left the group in 2012, Elly has continued performing under the name, releasing two further albums, one in 2014 and the third in 2020.

Trudie has spoken about her pride in her daughter's success, telling the Daily Record in 2015: "It's very strange. She's a lot more famous than I am because she is known worldwide. We had no expectations of them performing, but both of my daughters are musicians and songwriters. Music has always been a massive part of their life, not through me but through my husband. He is an actor, but also an extremely good musician.

"In retrospect, acting is probably a kinder profession than the music industry, but the main thing is that they are doing something they are passionate about and are very lucky to be doing something they love. An awful lot of people never have that opportunity in their whole lives. Once I realised there was no putting either of them off, I tried to support them."

Trudie was initially unsure about her daughter's career choice

Trudie has also credited her role on The Bill with allowing her to support her family, sharing in the same interview: "When my youngest daughter was in sixth form, she said she didn't want to go to university. I thought, 'That means I don't have to pay'. My other daughter had already gone through university, the mortgage was paid off because of The Bill and I suddenly thought, 'I don't want to do this anymore – I have had enough.'"
