During its run from 1972 until 1985, Are You Being Served? was one of Britain's most popular sitcoms. The show, set in the fictional Grace Brothers department store, was noted for its innuendo-laden dialogue, which entertained millions.
One of the chief characters in the long-running sitcom was Mr Cuthbert Rumbold, the autocratic but ineffective manager of the department store, played by comic actor Nicholas Smith for the show's entire run.
Before appearing in Are You Being Served?, Nicholas had starred in the likes of Doctor Who, The Saint and The Canterbury Tales, and he continued to have success, appearing in Grace & Favour, Martin Chuzzlewit and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
Away from acting, the star, who died at the age of 81 in 2015, was married to social worker Mary Smith, and the couple welcomed a daughter who followed in her famous father's footsteps by becoming an actress.
Here's all you need to know about the star's famous offspring…
Catherine Russell
Born on 17 April 1965, like her father, Catherine has entered the world of acting. Catherine is best-known for her theatre career, appearing in the likes of Three Sisters, A Chaste Maid and What the Butler Saw.
The 60-year-old has also appeared in major West End hits such as playing Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Miss Havisham in Great Expectations and Professor Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
The star has also had an incredible screen career, with roles in The Cazalets, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Agatha Christie's Poirot, Clockwork Mice and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. However, her biggest role was as Consultant Surgeon Serena Campbell in Holby City, a role that she played between 2012 and 2022.
Catherine also has a famous husband, as she is married to film producer Richard Holmes, who has worked on films including Soft Top Hard Shoulder, Waking Ned, Eden Lake and The Ritual. The couple share two children, Sam, a comedian and producer and Poppy, a musician.
Catherine was starring in Holby City when her father died, and his death prompted her to temporarily leave the medical drama. Speaking to Inside Soap about stepping away from the role, she explained: "The producers have been very sweet about giving me time off.
"I wanted to go and pretend to be somebody different after five years of playing Serena – and also my father died not so long ago, and I have his things to sort out. I needed time to do that, and to recharge my batteries."
