Rivals star Katherine Parkinson has dropped major hints about her on-screen future with Danny Dyer in the upcoming season of the hit show.

The actress walked the red carpet at the Royal Television Society Programme Awards, held at The Grosvenor Hotel in London, where she was nominated for Best Female Comedy Performance for her role as Rachel Jessop in the BBC sitcom Here We Go. But alongside her comedic performance in that series, Rivals is still on everyone's minds.

Her character, Lizzie Vereker, was one of the beloved favourites of the first season when she developed an attraction to self-made businessman Freddie Jones. Their steamy on-screen affair caused quite a stir, and we were keen to find out what is in store in season two, which airs later this year.

While the 48-year-old was tight-lipped about spoilers, she did tease the future of her and Danny's relationship. Asked whether their romance continues, she coyly said: "Potentially yes. A stoppy-starty situation." She suggested in her cryptic response that there is definitely more chaos to come for the pair – and if you remember the end of season one, the afterparty scene was quite the cliffhanger.

Set in the ruthless world of 1980s television, Rivals follows the feud between womaniser Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell) and TV boss Lord Tony Baddingham (David Tennant). Katherine's character Lizzie is a Rutshire-based romance author who is neglected by her narcissistic husband, prompting her to seek satisfaction elsewhere. Freddie is also in a rather loveless marriage, leading the two to find a more exciting connection with each other.

At the end of season one, Lizzie discovers her husband is having an affair, pushing her to pursue her attraction to Freddie after she initially brushes off her feelings for him. The pair eventually get together in the garden during an afterparty, leaving viewers wondering what will be next in the upcoming season – and for those who haven't watched the show, this is just one of many romance storylines that have left viewers hooked.

With plenty of chemistry, passion, and 80s music to come, Rivals season two is set to be just as popular with fans and airs on 16 May 2026 on Disney +

Season two is soon to drop

Away from Rivals, Katherine's schedule shows no sign of slowing down, including portraying Molly Weasley in the upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO, which is set to air sometime in 2027.
