Strictly Come Dancing has been snubbed by the BAFTA Television Awards after it missed out on a nomination for the first time in eight years. In particular, the BBC show failed to receive the accolade for the best 'Entertainment' programme category, even though the programme took home the gong in both 2019 and 2024.
Instead, four other entertainment shows have received a nod on the prized shortlist. They include The Graham Norton Show, Michael Mcintyre's Big Show and Would I Lie To You, which are all broadcast on the BBC, while Amazon Prime's Last One Laughing is also up for the coveted gong.
Strictly co-host Claudia Winkleman has been nominated for 'Entertainment Performance', however this is for her turn on the BBC's The Celebrity Traitors. It is unclear if other members of Strictly will attend the ceremony, which will take place on 10 May at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall in London.
It comes at a tumultuous time for Strictly, with the departure of hosts, Tess Daly, 56, and Claudia, 54. In October, they said in a statement: "We were always going to leave together and now feels like the right time. We will have the greatest rest of this amazing series and we just want to say an enormous thank you to the BBC and to every single person who works on the show.
"They're the most brilliant team and we'll miss them every day. We will cry when we say the last 'keep dancing' but we will continue to say it to each other. Just possibly in tracksuit bottoms at home while holding some pizza."
However, it appears the faces on the upcoming 2026 edition may be almost unrecognisable. In a shocking update, Fleur East and Janette Manrara are believed to have been let go from Strictly spin-off It Takes Two.
Further still, more shocking changes at the show, which launched in 2004, have seen the dismissal of a number of much-loved professional dancers. Indeed, it has been reported that Karen Hauer, 43, Nadiya Bychkova, 36, Michelle, 30, Luba Mushtuk, 36, and Gorka Marquez, 35, will not be returning.
Nadiya insisted "this isn't the end" as she recently broke her silence on the news. Meanwhile, Karen also confirmed the reports and said that "this is the right time for me to close this chapter".
Meanwhile, the Netflix series Adolescence has dominated this year's BAFTA TV nominations, with more than eleven nominations. That includes for 'Limited Drama' and 'Leading Actor'.
