Calling all murder mystery fans! ITV has a new crime drama in the works – and it sounds unmissable. The six-part series, A Taste for Murder, follows DCI Joe Mottram, a talented Met Police detective who, after the death of his wife, moves to Capri in Italy to reconnect with his daughter. But when a body is found on the beach, Joe is pulled straight back into danger.

The drama, which arrives on ITVX in May, boasts an impressive cast of British stars, including Downton Abbey's Phyllis Logan and Trigger Point's Warren Brown. Plus, it's penned by Matt Baker, who's no stranger to bringing compelling crime dramas to the small screen. His previous credits include ITV's hit crime series Professor T, the period drama Hotel Portofino and Channel 4's psychological drama, Suspect.

What to expect from A Taste of Murder

The series follows DCI Joe Mottram (Warren Brown), who takes a break from his job with London's Metropolitan Police after the sudden death of his wife. Hoping to reconnect with his teenage daughter Angelica (Beau Gadsdon, The Crown), he takes her to the island of Capri in Italy, where his late wife's parents Chef Gennaro (Urbano Barberini, Casino Royale) and Elena Da Vinale (Phyllis Logan) run a popular seaside restaurant.

But things soon take a turn when a local man's body is found on the beach and Joe is pulled back into the world of crime.

He locks horns with local Inspector Lara Sarrancino (Cristiana Dell'Anna), and the pair form "a grudging partnership, solving a variety of unusual crimes on the island".

The synopsis continues: "Along the way, Joe learns to cook, and his exploration of Italian dishes provides insights and clues into the crimes he is investigating. His lessons with Gennaro and Elena in the kitchen ultimately help him to become a better cook, father and detective.

"As the investigations deepen, the idyllic veneer of the island cracks, exposing a web of deception that forces Joe to confront a truth he never saw coming, and which turns his world upside down."
