Calling all Death In Paradise fans! ITV has a new show on the way, and it's perfect for those who love a crime-solving sleuth unpicking twisty murders in an exotic location à la Don Gilet's DI Mervin Wilson.
ITV has released first-look pictures of A Taste For Murder, which lands on ITV in the UK on 29 April. The series has already premiered on BritBox in the US and Canada on 7 April.
Starring Warren Brown (The Responder, Trigger Point) and Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey), the drama is set in Capri, Italy, and uniquely blends crime-filled mysteries with mouth-watering local cuisine, which sits at the heart of each episode.
If you're a fan of crime dramas set against beautiful, sun-soaked backdrops, then you're in for a treat. With creator Matt Baker (Patience, Professor T, Hotel Portofino) at the helm and Whitstable Pearl's Jon Jones directing, it's set to fill that crime drama gap in your viewing schedule.
A first look at the series
ITV took to Instagram to share a selection of first-look images from the new drama. One snapshot shows Warren's character, DCI Joe Mottram, being served some enviable dishes, while another captures the arrival of his daughter.
Elsewhere, Phyllis' character, Elena Da Vinale, is seen showcasing her skills as the family's matriarch and front-of-house manager of their restaurant.
What is A Taste For Murder about?
Much like Death in Paradise, which sees its lead detective relocate abroad for a fresh start, A Taste For Murder follows detective Joe Mottram as he retreats to Capri with his daughter after the tragic death of his wife. There, they spend the summer living with his Italian in-laws.
The synopsis continues: "Unsure how to face his own grief, let alone help heal his daughter's broken heart, he quickly becomes immersed in the local murder cases on the island."
"Along the way, Joe learns to cook, and his exploration of Italian dishes provides insights and clues into the crimes he is investigating. His lessons with Gennaro and Elena in the kitchen ultimately help him to become a better cook, father and detective.
"As the investigations deepen, the idyllic veneer of the island cracks, exposing a web of deception that forces Joe to confront a truth he never saw coming – and which turns his world upside down."
