Mad Max: Fury Road's Charlize Theron is one of Hollywood's favourite actresses, and as she entered her 50s, she revealed the secret to her flawless, toned movie star figure.
The 50-year-old South African native wowed in a yellow bikini during a recent holiday in Hawaii, where she enjoyed a sunny beach day in a striking bandeau-style two-piece.
As she emerged from the water, she showed off her taut figure and proved why she's still one of the industry's beloved beauty icons.
Despite transforming and shapeshifting for various roles, most notably her 30-pound weight gain for her debut movie Monster when she was 27 and a 50-pound body fat increase for Tully in 2018, aged 42, the star has managed to maintain an enviable stature across the decades.
A true Pilates princess
Like so many stars and the internet's elite, Pilates is Charlize's workout of choice for achieving her toned, strong body shape.
She revealed that picking up the workout had "changed [her] body" and that she uses it as her form of movement during the day.
Charlize told Harper's Bazaar Australia: "I’m always calculating my activity. If I haven’t been moving a lot, I can’t eat a lot. Or maybe it’s a cheat day. But I’m honest with myself."
Abbey McLachlan, founder of the Pilates studio East of Eden, exclusively revealed to Best Quality Designer Handbag what the benefits of Pilates are. She explained that it "concentrates on strengthening the deep postural muscles, raising awareness of how one stands and the general alignment of the hips, spine and head".
While Pilates is her go-to class, the star also revealed she added some power yoga to her routine and does two 90-minute classes weekly.
When she wants to sweat, Charlize goes spinning up to four times per week and if she has time, she likes to play tennis, after being introduced to it by her mum. She said: "If you do exercise you enjoy, you’re keeping yourself fit without even realising it."
Portion control and zero booze
The Atomic Blonde star revealed she does not drink alcohol and intentionally focuses her meals on leafy greens and a more plant-based approach.
She told Red in 2017: "I have juices and kale and green salads every day. When I’m eating healthily, getting enough sleep and not drinking alcohol, that’s when I look my best. That’s when I’m happiest, and I think it shows."
The star also adopts a grazing mindset to eating and rather prepares "six small meals per day" instead of three large ones. She admitted that she does indulge in things like burgers but will only "have a quarter of one".
