Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman shocked the entertainment world when they announced their divorce last September, and amid the fallout, their eldest daughter, Sunday Rose, spilt the beans on her famous family.

The 17-year-old model is the older sibling of Faith Margaret, 15, and half-sibling of Isabella Jane, 33, and Connor Cruise, 31, Nicole's children, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise

Following the finalisation of her parents' divorce in January, Sunday appeared on the cover of ELLE Australia for the first time and opened up about her relationship with her famous mother.

She told the publication: "My mum is someone who has always been so creative and my biggest inspiration in life. She's a key part of everything I do.

"The biggest piece of industry advice Mum has given to me is to always be on time. There's always going to be something with an early call time that you don't want to get up for, but it's really important to be on time because it shows that you're prepared and grateful to be there."

During her chat, she failed to mention how her father had impacted her life and only made reference to Nicole. HELLO! asked a child psychologist what the budding fashion model's remarks told us about her bond with her musician dad as they learn how to navigate a separate household.

What do Sunday's remarks tell us about her relationship with her father?

Ultimately, a divorce is never easy on any child, no matter their age. The breakdown of a family unit can be distressing as an entire household adapts to change and a new way of operating.

Friction between certain members will arise, especially in the early stages, as dynamics are ironed out and emotions are running high.

Dr Sasha Hall is an HCPC-registered Senior Education and Child Psychologist who has over 15 years of experience in the field. She explained: "When Sunday Rose Kidman Urban spoke about inspiration, she appeared to be answering within the context of her career.

"Given her modelling work and her early exposure to that world through Nicole Kidman, it would be quite natural for her to focus on her mother in that moment. Teenagers are at a stage where they are shaping their identity and may highlight different influences depending on the situation.

She added: "This kind of response can reflect context and relevance rather than the overall quality of her relationship with her dad, Keith Urban."

How might Keith be dealing with the emotions of fatherhood during his divorce?

When two parents split up, it can sometimes be a natural course of action for certain children to choose a side and back one parent over another. This has to do with the "emotional availability" of the individuals and their relationship before the divorce.

"What often matters more is which parent a child experiences as emotionally available and closely connected to their daily life," the expert highlighted. She added: "Age can also play a role as teenagers are developing their identity and may gravitate towards the parent they feel best understands their current interests or experiences.

"Shared interests, communication style and previous relationship patterns are often more influential than gender alone."

Dr Sasha reflected on Keith's reaction to Sunday's remarks and said: "It would be understandable if Keith experienced some hurt in response to how this has been portrayed publicly, even though nothing negative was said about their relationship.

"There may also be concern about how others interpret moments like this and what it might suggest about his bond with his daughter. During divorce, many parents experience a mix of emotions, including worry about maintaining closeness with their children.

"The most supportive responses tend to involve staying emotionally available, keeping communication open and allowing the child space to express themselves without pressure."

What has Keith said about being a 'girl-dad'?

Keith has publicly expressed how much he loves being a father to two girls. The musician, 58, told ABC News in 2018: "It's an incredible feeling and having girls - I love having girls. You know, I come from a family with no sisters, one brother. So, it's been quite the learning curve in a really good way."

He has also referenced his own father in the past, when speaking about his journey with fatherhood, and posted on social media: "Being a Dad gives me a WHOLE new love and appreciation for my Dad - and everything he’s done for me."

Keith and Nicole tied the knot on 25 June 2006 during a ceremony at the Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel in Manly, Sydney, Australia. Two years later, in 2008, they welcomed their first child together, Sunday, while Faith came along in 2010.
