Martin Clunes and his wife, Philippa Braithwaite, share one daughter together, and she is determined not to be branded as a nepo-baby despite both parents working in the television industry.

The Wuthering Heights star is back on screens, this time portraying former BBC Newsreader Huw Edwards in Channel 5's drama series Power: The Downfall Of Huw Edwards, and despite his acting success, there is no chance his child will follow in his footsteps.

Welcoming their daughter Emily Clunes, 26, in 1999, Martin and Phillipa moved to the Dorset countryside in 2007 to raise their only child away from the glare of London's spotlight.

The actor and film producer relocated to the 130-acre Meerhay Farm in West Dorset's Beaminster so that they could have access to fields for Emily's pony. The couple continued to work in the entertainment industry, alongside running their farm that has horses, cattle and sheep.

An ordinary career despite an extraordinary parentage

While many in her shoes would be making their way towards red carpets, Emily leaned into her countryside upbringing and is carving out a career for herself in the world of equestrianism.

Working towards becoming an equine vet, the star's daughter is a keen event rider and is pursuing a degree in equine vet nursing at Hartpury University. She regularly posts on a public Instagram account about her love for horse riding.

Earlier this year, she posted about challenges she has been facing while studying and revealed she had experienced some loss during 2025 that caused her to struggle with her mental health.

Alongside a selfie of Emily and her horse, she reflected on her year and said: "It gave me difficulties and losses I never thought I would have to face at this age, with losing friends and animals through the year and struggled with my own illnesses, surgeries and mental health. All the while completing my placement at a veterinary hospital, studying at university and big exams."

She also mentioned that she was on shift on New Year's Eve and "was on call and in bed by 11 so definitely didn’t celebrate hard".

Martin's controversial role

Making a name for himself as Dr Martin Ellingham in the hit ITV series Doc Martin, the actor has since appeared in a string of programmes and films, including his latest release about ex-BBC journalist Huw.

The star recently said about his new project: "I never try to second guess what the audience will think, and I've never been confused with any of my characters, like people in soap operas are.

"I think viewers just see an actor doing his best, and whether they approve or not is entirely up to them. I’ve played a murderer before, and I’m vile in Wuthering Heights, so this isn’t my first dark role, but I always just take work from what’s on offer, and I've never had a plan."

He continued: "I've always been lucky enough to balance light-hearted jobs like Doc Martin with dramas in between. I’m not desperate to reshape myself – I’d play someone like Doc Martin again in a heartbeat."
