Emma and Matt Willis revealed why they would be taking their 14-year-old son, Ace, to watch his dad perform in the adult-themed West End show Cabaret at London's iconic Kit Kat Club.
The Busted singer, 42, is currently playing the role of the Emcee in John Kander’s extravaganza, a part that has been played by very famous faces, including Eddie Redmayne and Billy Porter.
Morphing into the character, Matt explained why he wanted his son, in particular, to see his interpretation of the gender-fluid, flamboyant Emcee.
The former pop-punk star shares his son with his TV presenter wife, Emma, 50, and the couple also welcomed children Isabelle in June 2009 and Trixie in May 2016.
He opened up about his latest project and shared why he felt it was important for his teenage son to watch him perform as his character and understand the show in general.
Matt revealed: "I think this show puts a middle finger up to toxic masculinity. Cabaret’s been around for a long time and it still resonates today. It’s not lost on me."
He continued telling Metro.co.uk: "My son has come to watch this, and I think that’s really important. There’s a whole world of people embracing differences and all different parts of culture and humanity. That’s what the Kit Kat Club does."
The star also spoke about his relationship with his wife, who is set to replace Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2, and opened up about how they spend time together at home with their three kids.
"‘I’m constantly blown away that my kids want to hang out with me. They just wanna be with me, and that’s the most amazing thing," he told the outlet. "It’s what I miss the most when I’m in theatre. We sit down every night, watch telly, drink tea, and chat. That’s a big part of our lives."
He also told Best Quality Designer Handbag : "13 years ago, I was like, 'I can't be away for more than three weeks because it's just too much for the kids'. So that's the one thing that I've been doing for the last 13 years."
Matt reflected on his early days with Emma and remembered how they used to spend time with her parents at her house before they tied the knot in July 2008.
He said: "We would stay over at her parents’ house, and when we woke up the next day, all they wanted to do was sit around and hang out. Just sit on the sofa and talk. I’d never really experienced that. It was quite uncomfortable for me."
A working relationship
As well as working together to raise their children, Matt and Emma proved they were the ultimate power couple after they debuted their presenting double act for the UK version of Netflix's dating show, Love Is Blind.
On Instagram, the real-life love birds revealed they were busy gearing up to launch season three of the reality show and were hunting for contestants for season four. They looked happier and healthier than ever as they spoke to their followers and told them how they could sign up.
The callout came after Matt paid tribute to his wife on her 50th birthday. Alongside a gallery of pictures, he penned an adorable message that read: "50 looks good on you bab. Love this woman more than I could ever put into words.
"Literally all I want to do is hang out with you. You are my everything. Happy birthday @emmawillisofficial. Can’t wait to do the next 50 together xxx."
