Happy birthday, Prince Louis! The Prince and Princess of Wales' youngest son turns eight on 23 April 2026, and what an eight years of joy it has been for the royal couple. As the youngest of three (William and Kate are also parents to 12-year-old Prince George and 10-year-old Princess Charlotte), it is a rare occasion for Prince Louis to join his parents on royal engagements.

That said, he has made an appearance in public on significant days in the royal calendar, including the annual Trooping the Colour parade, on Easter Sunday, and at King Charles' coronation.

George, Charlotte, and Louis know they must be on their best behaviour when joining their parents and other senior royals at public-facing events, but that doesn't stop sweet Prince Louis from breaking into a playful facial expression or a little dance here and there.

Keep scrolling to see some of the prince's adorable cheeky moments as he celebrates his eighth birthday in private…

Easter Sunday 2023

Walking towards St George's Chapel at Windsor for the Easter Sunday service attended by the royal family, Prince Louis couldn't resist showing his playful side while clutching the hand of his mother. Photographers and press looked on as the young prince sneakily stuck his tongue out before grinning mischievously.

80th anniversary of VE Day

On what is otherwise a sombre occasion, Louis couldn't resist making his mother laugh as he pulled a funny face while watching the fly past over Buckingham Palace to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day in 2025.

Teasing his brother

Prince Louis put his playful relationship with big brother George on full display during the same VE Day celebration. Moments after George battled the wind, pushing his hair out of his face, Louis mimicked him in jest.

The Platinum Jubilee Pageant…twice

Sitting through a long event is a tricky task for any young child, and Prince Louis made sure to find his own fun on the day of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant in 2022, including by sticking his tongue out and holding his hand up to his nose in a cheeky fashion.

Having famously put his hand over his mother's mouth as she spoke to him calmly about watching quietly, Prince Louis' face said it all.

King Charles' coronation

With thousands of people watching on from The Mall, why just stand on the balcony at Buckingham Palace if you can dance? Prince Louis couldn't help but bust a few moves following the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey on 6 May 2023.

Trooping the Colour 2022

It seems the excitement of the military flypast was all a bit much in 2022, with Prince Louis screaming and covering his ears as his mother looked on in amusement.

And again in 2023

When it comes to a flypast, if you can't beat them, join them, or at least that was Louis' approach as he imitated a Red Arrow on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during Trooping the Colour 2023.
