The beauty of having a newsletter about vintage clothing is that I’m able to regularly scour the internet for preloved gems and call it work. While this isn’t to plug my new endeavour (do sign up if you fancy - she’s a fun one) it does mean I keep an ear to the ground and my eyes peeled for vintage treasures at all times.

Which comes in handy when analysing celebrity wardrobes. While prepping for this week’s iteration, I came across a John Galliano autumn/winter 2003 knitted cami top with floral embroidered detail. The piece, sourced by Studded Petals, is a spring dream - complete with a sheer cowl neckline dotted with sweet blooms and finished with a silk chiffon lining.

Turns out, I wasn’t alone in my admiration for the vintage piece. Back in January, Charli XCX attended the Wuthering Heights global junket photocall at Greystone Mansion alongside stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

For the event, the 33-year-old singer slipped into the very same John Galliano autumn/winter 2003 black openwork knit cardigan and camisole set with floral pattern detailing - bought from Tab Vintage. With the help of her stylist Chris Horan, she paired the duo with a Saint Laurent midi skirt in pointelle knit and Christian Louboutin’s Miss Z Pumps in a black-red colourway - leaning into the whimsygoth vibe of Emerald Fennell’s romantic reboot of the Emily Brontë classic.

Charli took her place alongside Bottega boy Jacob and Chanel muse Margot - who secured an off-the-runway look from Turkish designer Dilara Findikoglu's FW25 collection for the appearance.

Galliano's designs remain seriously hot property on the preloved designer market - particularly those created during his tenure at Dior. Case in point? Later during the film’s press tour, Margot herself stepped out in a brocaded longline jacket with feathered pale pink trims hailing from a John Galliano 1992 collection. The garment was layered over a black micro skirt and teamed with red knee-high stockings and silver point-toe heels.

Sabrina Carpenter is also a notable fan, sporting a négligée dress from Galliano for Dior’s autumn/winter 1997 runway for her birthday last year. The garment, My Runway Archive, was teamed with some floral Galliano for Dior heels sourced from Sororite Vintage - adding an extra layer of early Aughts excellence to her girlish aesthetic.

Kylie Jenner, Bella Hadid, Kim Kardashian and Zendaya also feature in the lineup of Galliano enthusiasts.

Take it from the experts. Millie Adams, founder of Studded Petals, previously told us: “Brands that are always popular with our customers would be Gucci by Tom Ford, due to their very high quality, simplistic yet sexy and wearable styles, as well as Galliano’s Dior, especially his bias cut silk dresses that look incredible on anyone.”

John Galliano’s tenure at Dior was a triumph. Bias-cut slips, newspaper prints (famously popularised by Carrie Bradshaw in Sex & The City) and decadent theatrics rewired the runway. Galliano interwove historical references (often problematic) with subversive couture. Hedonistic, bold and brilliant, the partnership prevailed - until Galliano was fired as creative director by the maison in March 2011 following a public scandal involving anti-Semitic and racist rants at a Paris cafe.
