For as long as I can remember, I’ve had an obsession with beaded bags. Think weekends spent sifting through The Frock Me Vintage Fair in search of the perfect Art Deco 1920s purse and furiously trawling eBay for my dream preloved piece of embellished arm candy. I actually dread to think about the amount of hours spent glued to a screen dedicated to this never-ending plight.
My addiction increased tenfold when a family friend showed me her prized 2000 vintage beaded Fendi Baguette. The rare gem featured kaleidoscopic hues of golden mustard, rose pink, tangerine orange, lime green and fresh turquoise, curated in a psychedelic formation of layered circles and youthquake floral motifs.
So, you can imagine my sheer delight (which bordered on a euphoria-induced crash out) when Fendi’s Maria Grazia Chiuri re-released the 1997 Baguette for the brand’s recent autumn/winter 2026 runway collection. Models took to the catwalk armed with iridescent beaded options in a range of vibrant tones, animal prints, Zucca motifs and circular designs.
Fellow luxury houses followed suit, incorporating beaded beauties into their transitional runway offerings. Dior’s Jonathan Anderson leaned into whimsical, Rococo aesthetics, peppering pastel-hued clutches with pale pink blooms. In true Matthieu Blazy fashion, Chanel opted for striking colour juxtapositions, placing petite floral crystals on quilted icons.
Dries Van Noten doubled down on texture, marrying rich, sunset-toned jacquard silks with brilliant glass beaded florals that paid homage to the craft of customisation. In keeping with fantastical themes, Etro produced tapestry maps of fairytale scenes, culminating in an exquisite symphony of feathers, studs and sequins.
