It was reported on Saturday that Princess Michael Of Kent has been recuperating at home after a period of ill health. The Daily Mail reported that "Her Royal Highness suffered a stroke. Sadly, she is now bedridden."
Subsequently, HELLO! reached out to Princess Michael's representative for further information, who told us: "We are grateful for the concern shown, but do not comment on private medical matters."
It is at her Kensington Palace home that the royal, whose birth name is Baroness Marie-Christine Anna Agnes Hedwig Ida von Reibnitz, has been taking time for herself in private.
Inside Princess Michael's home
Princess Michael has lived with her husband, Queen Elizabeth's cousin Prince Michael of Kent, at Apartment 10 for over 40 years. Located in London, the property is situated within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, making it a convenient base for when they have previously attended events like King Charles' pre-Christmas royal family luncheon at Buckingham Palace.
The home is a rather grand affair featuring five bedrooms and five reception rooms. Unearthed photos featuring Princess Michael at home reveal that the residence features a maximalist aesthetic with printed mustard yellow wallpaper, ceiling-grazing bookshelves and eclectic mahogany furniture.
It's where the Kents welcome their family – son Lord Frederick Windsor, daughter-in-law Sophie Winkleman and granddaughters Maud, 12, and Isabella, 10, as well as their daughter, Lady Gabriella Kingston.
Prince and Princess Michael of Kent downsize their pad
They moved into the apartment after Prince Michael sold his £5.75 million 10-bedroom Cotswolds home, Nether Lypiatt Manor. Of the move from leafy Gloucestershire to London, Princess Michael told The Sunday Times Magazine: "Of course I miss the big gardens we had at our country house, but it became very expensive to run... we couldn’t afford it.
"For the first time, that terrible word came into my life when our private secretary said, 'Ma'am, you have to downsize'. It was the worst word I’d heard in ages." At Kensington Palace, the couple reportedly pay an annual rent of £120,000.
They started paying a commercial-rate rent payment in 2010, having previously paid peppercorn rent from 1979 until 2002.
Which royals live at Kensington Palace?
The Kents are not the only relatives of King Charles to reside at Kensington Palace. Though the Prince and Princess of Wales primarily reside at Forest Lodge in Windsor, they retain Apartment 1A inside the palace to use with their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, for when they are in London.
It is a 20-room apartment that previously belonged to the late Queen's sister, Princess Margaret. After the passing of his wife, Katharine, Duchess of Kent, the Duke Of Kent also lives alone at Kensington Palace. Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester currently live in the Old Stables at Kensington Palace after downsizing from Apartment 1.
