Alan Carr was the beloved winner of the first season of The Celebrity Traitors last November, and it seems the show made a lasting impression on the star. The former Chatty Man host, 49, has purchased a castle of his own for £3.25 million and is able to star using a new name.
While making an appearance on Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks' Staying Relevant podcast on Monday, Alan confirmed he has the rights to the Barony of Ayton title. The barony dates back to 1324 and was available to purchase along with the estate.
"I'm in my turret era. I want a castle, and I'm 50. I'm not going to be around forever. I think 50, I just want to do what I want to do," he admitted. "I've always wanted a castle. I'm a baron. I'm going to get my own tartan."
Inside Alan's 'turret era'
Ayton Castle is situated in Eyemouth, Berwickshire, and is quite the lavish affair. It features 16 bedrooms and sits on 160 acres of gardens. Fully reminiscent of the Traitors cast's sojourn to Ardross Castle, Alan's castle even has its own miniature railway.
He has high hopes for the property, having revealed on Jonathan Ross' chat show that he wants it to become a place people can visit and that he could house animals like 'a big old zoo'.
Why did Alan Carr move to Scotland?
"I'm 50 this year - I know I don't look it - and I just want one. I know it sounds very grand," he told fellow Celebrity Traitor Jonathan of his castle purchase. "I'm moving from where I am at the minute, I want animals there, I want a community thing.
"I'm lonely where I am," he added. "It'll be nice, having people come there and have a cream tea. I want people to come in and have donkeys and stuff everywhere."
"The estate agent said, 'Do you want some Highland cows?' I said, 'Yeah, stick them on.' I want to reintroduce wolves. If I'm a landowner, I can reintroduce wolves," Alan continued. "That'd be nice. Helps the ecosystem… I read somewhere… maybe I'll have a think about that. I want it to be like a big old zoo, I love it."
Alan invites fans inside
While Alan is currently keeping his castle under wraps, he is set to take fans inside. He will be renovating the property and documenting the process on his new Disney+ series.
The show, which has the working title Castle Man, will be akin to his renovation series with Amanda Holden on the BBC. Before moving to Scotland, Alan lived in a farmhouse in Kent with Paul Drayton, his husband from 2018 until their split in 2022.
