George Clooney may be a skilled actor, having previously taken home two Oscars, but he will readily admit that cooking is not his strong suit. Unfortunately, it's also not a skill his wife, human rights lawyer Amal, possesses. Luckily for the Clooneys, they have the help of professional chef Viviana Frizzi, who cooks for them at their $10 million Lake Como home.
Speaking to People in 2018 about his personal chef, the Jay Kelly star revealed: "[She] can make anything, including handmade gnocchi with pesto that would make you cry.
"Vivi cooks almost every night for us now because we have the twins. Going out isn’t as easy or as interesting as it used to be. Besides, all of our friends would rather eat her food than hit up a local restaurant in Como or in London."
George and Amal took on a personal chef in 2013, and their twins, Ella and Alexander, were born in 2017. The Ocean's Eleven star admitted that having Vivi cook for them has become somewhat of a necessity. "Honestly, Amal and I are such poor chefs that any lesson from Vivi in the kitchen would be like teaching a whale to fly," the Hollywood legend joked.
What do George, Amal and the twins eat?
Vivi cooks a range of meals for the couple and their twins, who are now eight years old. Pizza night is a weekly occurrence, with George and Amal favouring a margherita with rocket salad.
Meanwhile, their children will happily tuck into sushi, Lebanese and Indian dishes. "The twins are not fussy eaters," the chef told People in 2018, revealing that their menu features salmon, tomato risotto, and ricotta with raspberries. "When they like a dish, they put their little fingers on their cheeks, smile and say, 'Mmm!'"
Where do George and Amal live?
As far as their home base, Vivi cooks for George and Amal at their Italian home, Villa Oleandra, which the ER star purchased in 2002. Located in Laglio, the 18th-century house features 25 rooms, as well as a pool, gym, cinema, tennis courts, and a garage for the star's vintage motorbike collection.
It is particularly sentimental for the couple as it is where they met, with barrister Amal tagging along with a mutual friend to a party at George's residence in 2013.
It was putting down roots in Italy, which took place before he met Amal, that changed George's perspective on life. "I was working so hard on my film projects that for a time I basically didn't even think very much about how my personal life was evolving. I didn't care, in the sense that I didn't have a family or children to look after and that I wasn't involved in a long-term relationship," George said in a 2010 press conference.
"What changed my life in a very pleasant and unexpected way was buying the villa in Laglio. That was a pure investment decision - I thought maybe I would spend a few weeks vacationing there. But then I realised how beautiful life was in Italy and how it really helped calm me and not feel so pressured."
The couple now spend a lot of time in France and owns a home set on a 425-acre wine estate in the village of Brignoles.
