The exterior of George and Amal Clooney's Lake Como home is renowned worldwide, with its striking Northern Italian yellow architecture, deep sea foam green shutters and imposing presence on the waters edge.

While thousands of photos have been taken by tourists taking part in boat trips, very few have actually seen inside Villa Oleandra. In fact, only a handful of photos exist of the Jay Kelly actor's home, which he purchased from the Heinz family in 2002 for a reported $10 million.

Lake Como villas

Located in the Laglio area, the 18th-century home reportedly features 25 rooms, a speedboat pier, a tennis court and a gym and even a pizza room. But the luxurious villa with A-list worthy amenities was not created overnight – George supposedly purchased an adjacent property called Villa Margherita (where he now keeps his motorcycle collection) while Oleandra underwent renovations.

Today, both remain in his possession and have played host to memorable events, including a holiday for the cast of Ocean's Twelve. Overlooking the lake, it lends itself to romantic moments, so it's perhaps unsurprising that it was where George's friends Emily Blunt and John Krasinski got married in 2010, and where he first met human rights lawyer Amal in 2013.

Romantic past

George reached out to John and Emily to offer up his home as a wedding venue. "‘Only on the fourth ask did I say yes. Because the first three times I thought, there's no way he is serious," the Jack Ryan star said in an interview in 2016.

John and Emily have kept their wedding photos very private, meaning the interiors and luxurious features of the Lake Como property remain under wraps.

Three years later, a mutual friend brought Lebanon-native Amal as a plus one to a party that George was hosting.

"The funniest thing is Bryan Lourd my agent called me, he had just met Amal at some other thing and she was like, 'Yeah I am going to go to Como with a friend of mine,' and he called me up and he said, 'There's a girl coming to your house that you are going to marry'", George recalled, adding that he called him "an idiot" in response.

"And then in comes Amal and we stayed up all night talking and I started writing her a bunch of letters," he added.

Relocation

The couple welcomed twins Alexander and Ella in 2017, and George hinted that protecting their privacy was the main factor driving their move to France.

In 2025, the Clooneys were granted French citizenship, and he told French radio network, RTL: "Here, they don’t take photos of kids. There aren’t any paparazzi hidden at the school gates. That’s number one for us."
