Martin Clunes is best known for portraying Doc Martin, a country GP, but behind the scenes, the actor also enjoys a rural lifestyle. The star, who plays the disgraced newsreader in Channel 5's new Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards, lives on a 130-acre farm in Beaminster, Dorset, with his wife, TV producer Philippa Braithwaite.
Owning a farmhouse isn't what Martin had initially envisioned for himself when he set about purchasing a property in the early 2000s, but it was his daughter's hobby that helped make the final decision to secure their farm in 2007.
"We always wanted a field for a pony for our daughter Emily," the 64-year-old told Dorset Magazine previously. "And one never came up, and suddenly, 130 acres came up, which wasn't quite what we were looking for, but if you don't do something, you'll have a grass problem. It will all go wild, so we started with loads of sheep."
From there, Emily's horses took priority. "Everything sort of makes way for the horses, that's very much our sort of primary thing, and that's what my daughter's studying and what she wants to do for the rest of her life, so we all have our own horses and love working and hanging out with them," Martin previously said on This Morning.
Martin Clunes' personal haven
Martin's farm isn't just home to horses, though. As of 2025, he also owned a handful of cattle, five dogs, two cats, and nine hens. It is on the farm that the actor feels he can truly unwind.
"It's my favourite place in the world. I can go for weeks without leaving the farm," he told the Express in 2025.
"I like being connected to the seasons in a real way. Making hay, worrying about the grass, watching the leaves come and go, caring for the animals.
"I am really happy there and never get lonely. I like travelling, and am lucky enough to have been to and worked in some amazing places, but I’ve always got an eye on coming home."
Martin's home opens to the public
Now, Martin is sharing a slice of his farm life with the public, as later this year, the Manhunt star will host the annual Buckham Fair. The fair is a traditional Dorset country show based on Martin and Philippa's land, which brings together local businesses and community organisations for a day of displays, entertainment, and fundraising.
The Buckham Fair has been running since 2009 and has raised over £500,000 so far for local charities. All donations from Buckham Fair 2026 will go directly to Dorset County Hospital Charity.
