When not starring in a major Hollywood movie, Harrison Ford can be found at his massive 800-acre ranch in Wyoming that he shares with his wife, Calista Flockhart. But 29 years before the Indiana Jones actor, 83, married the 61-year-old Ally McBeal star, he lived in Los Angeles.
In an unearthed photo from 1981, the Star Wars legend can be seen tidying up his living room – and he was the epitome of domesticity!
The actor, who landed his breakthrough film role as Bob Falfa in American Graffiti in 1963, was seen vacuuming a furry rug in the living room, which adjoined a small, open-plan kitchen.
The room also featured a fireplace with a brick surround and printed tiles. In a third shot, Harrison was seen washing his dishes and loading his dishwasher, which appeared to be in a galley-style utility room or kitchen with pans hung from the walls.
Head outside and you'd find Harrison cooling off from all the housework poolside. The star's pad featured French doors that opened out onto a patio and an alfresco pool.
Where does Harrison Ford live now?
Harrison and his wife live on an 800-acre ranch in Jackson Hole, which was once even larger. In 1985, the actor donated approximately half of his property as "conservation easements".
They were sections of land classified as nature reserves to prevent substantial development that could otherwise harm the flora or fauna of the area. Harrison was somewhat of a pioneer with this decision.
A conservation pioneer
"Back in the 1980s, very few people knew anything about conservation easements, and there were very few active land trusts," Stephen Small, who helped author the tax code for conservation easements, told The Land Report magazine in 2007.
Meanwhile, Laurie Andrews, executive director of the Jackson Hole Land Trust, added: "Back then, [Harrison Ford] was breaking new ground. For him to step forward and say, 'This is win-win. It works for me, and it works for the land,' you really can't put a price on that."
A quiet private life
It is from the comfort of his ranch that Harrison can retreat from public view, and it seems he may still be doing his own housework.
He told Parade in 2020: "When I'm up in Wyoming, I just walk out the door and keep walking…if my chores are done and there's nothing more pressing and the weather's good, I'll go flying – I love to fly up there – or walk in the woods, do some work, ride my road bike or mountain bike."
