Count Nikolai of Monpezat looked right in his element as he took to the slopes on a recent winter wonderland vacation in the Alps. The Danish royal, who is the son of Prince Joachim of Denmark and his first wife Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg, headed to the mountains for a dreamy getaway with his girlfriend of more than seven years, Benedikte Thoustrup, as they enjoyed leisure time in the snow while making sure to get in some skiing time too.

Nikolai shared several action shots of him tackling the slopes to his Instagram grid, aptly choosing Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's hit track 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' to play over the post. The royal posed for a picture at the top with the mountains and snow-covered trees behind him.

Nikolai and his long-term girlfriend Benedikte were both rugged up in protective jackets with matching helmets and safety goggles as they braved the chilly mountain air. In one photo, Benedikte was tagged in; the couple sweetly cuddled up on the ski lift as they took in the spectacular snowy scenery below.

"Back in the Alps," the Danish royal simply captioned the carousel post. His girlfriend shared some love by leaving a single red heart emoji in the comments section. On her own account, Benedikte posted more photos and footage taken from the trip, which appeared to be with friends, including a cute video of Nikolai fixing her hair and helmet before they took to the slopes.

"Thank god he's also a skier," she captioned the tender moment.

Nikolai is an avid skier

Since Nikolai and his siblings were stripped of their royal titles by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark in 2022, the royal has gone to university, modelled and lived in Australia as he lives out a live away from royal duties.

Nikolai has showcased his skiing skills on social media in the past. The royal has shared photos to Instagram from his seemingly annual trip to the Alps from the last four years, going back to 2023.

"Week 5 in the Alps," he captioned a post chronicling his extended skiing holiday on 4 February, 2023.

The Danish royal, who is the eldest grandchild of Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik, and the eldest nephew of King Frederik X, has been dating his model girlfriend Benedikte since 2018.

Benedikte is the founder of a family-run brand called BénéSoie that makes hair clips, hand-sewn bags and silk bands for heatless curls. She first met the Danish royal when they were undergraduate students at the Copenhagen Business School.

The couple moved together to Australia in late 2023 for a semester abroad at Sydney’s University of Technology. "They met as young people on Herlufsholm and had their first date at a nearby gas station," ELLE Denmark wrote about the couple in May 2025 for a cover interview.

"Since then, Greve Nikolai and Benedikte Thoustrup have grown up and have seen much of the world together. They currently live in Australia, where they cultivate a laid-back culture and try to keep things at a distance, but Denmark will always be their base."
