Princess Madeleine of Sweden has opened up about the importance of balancing her role as a mother with being a businesswoman in a new interview.

In a rare personal chat at Stockholm's Hotel Diplomat with POINT DE VUE, the princess posed for a series of portraits before opening up about her exciting plans for the rest of 2026.

The Princess, 43, who is the youngest daughter of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden, shares children Leonore, Nicolas and Adrienne with her husband, Christopher O'Neill. She launched her skincare brand, minLen, last year, in collaboration with Weleda and returned to Sweden after several years living abroad in Florida and New York.

In the interview, she was asked about how she balances being a princess, a businesswoman and a philanthropist, as well as being a mother of three.

In the powerful chat, Princess Madeleine said: "As women, we all wear many hats: mothers, active women, sisters, and friends. Of course, my role as a mother will always be my priority."

Family life

Princess Madeleine also opened up about her children's hobbies – explaining that Nicolas "loves skiing" and is looking forward to returning to Sweden. Her daughters, Leonore and Adrienne, enjoy horse riding and have even started to practice showjumping.

It's something Madeleine is also dedicated to, explaining that she spends five evenings a week at the stables and can see the Royal Sables from her apartment window. After spending 15 years abroad – in New York, then Florida – the family has now returned home to Sweden.

Madeleine added in the new interview: "It was time to come home. I missed my family and close friends. I also felt like my children were growing up as little Americans.

"It was important for me to bring them here and pass on their Swedish heritage. Living abroad has been a wonderful experience." The princess married British-American financier Christopher O-Neill in 2013.

Exciting plans

This year, Princess Madeleine's father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, will celebrate both his 80th birthday and 50th wedding anniversary with Queen Silvia in what will be a historic year for the couple. The monarch will turn 80 on 30 April, with a thanksgiving service scheduled to take place on the day, as well as a gala dinner.

The couple will also mark their 50th wedding anniversary on 19 June. Celebrations for their Golden wedding anniversary will take place on 13 June, including a church service and a horse-drawn carriage procession through Stockholm.

Silvia Sommerlath was working as a training manager for Olympic hostesses when she met then Crown Prince Carl XVI Gustaf at the 1972 Games. Their engagement was announced four years later, with the pair tying the knot at Stockholm Cathedral on 19 June 1976.
