On Tuesday, it was finally confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla will undertake a state visit to the United States next month to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence.
Although the monarch will be in the same country as his son, Prince Harry, a source close to the Duke of Sussex has confirmed that Harry wouldn't be travelling to Washington, D.C. to reunite with his father.
Harry and Charles last saw each other six months ago, following a 19-month break. Harry was in the country for the WellChild Awards, and conducted a 54-minute meeting with his father, which consisted of a private tea.
A source close to Harry told HELLO! at the time: "I don't think he's [Harry] completely dropped the idea of feeling that he has been wronged in certain ways by the institution, but he would rather the opportunity for reconciliation.
"With the passing of time, everything softens, especially when close family members are ill; that focuses the mind somewhat. He's willing to be a bit more at peace with things, rather than battling constantly. It's taken its toll."
Recent reunion hopes
Harry's decision not to visit his father comes as the Duke, who has been based in the United States since stepping down from being a working royal back in 2020, was reported to want to spend some "family time" with his father in Sandringham later in the year.
The Times claimed that Harry hopes to be invited by his father, and that he would be bringing his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The last time that Charles saw his grandchildren was back in 2022 when Harry and Meghan travelled to the UK to mark the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
However, according to the report, Harry's decision on any possible invite would be subject to a decision over his security. The 41-year-old has spoken about how he doesn't feel safe in the country and doesn't want to put his young family at risk.
It was revealed following Harry's visit to the UK last September that a female stalker came within feet of him on two occasions.
State visit
On Tuesday, an official statement read: "On advice of His Majesty's Government, and at the invitation of The President of the United States, The King and Queen will undertake a State Visit to the United States of America.
"Their Majesties' programme will celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence."
Charles will also carry out a solo trip to Bermuda in his first visit to a British overseas territory since ascending to the throne in 2022. The trip will come at the end of the American state visit.
