King Charles blew an affectionate kiss to his grandchildren as he arrived at the Easter Matins service at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, on Sunday.

Joined by his wife, Queen Camilla, the King was driven to the church in the State Bentley, where the rest of his family, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, were waiting with their three children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven.

The monarch looked in high spirits as he warmly waved to well-wishers who had gathered to mark the occasion. Guided to the church entrance by the Dean of Windsor, the Right Reverend Christopher Cocksworth, Charles took a sweet moment to affectionately blow a kiss to his grandchildren George, Charlotte and Louis, who were patiently waiting alongside William.

Standing behind them was Kate, who performed a royal curtsy while standing next to James, Earl of Wessex, 18. Charles then proceeded to lead his family into the church, but not before sparing a moment to pay special attention to Charlotte, gently tapping his grandson on the shoulder before walking through the entrance.

What happened after the church service?

After the hour-long service, the royals returned to the chapel, where they enjoyed tea with the Dean, before re-emerging to walk back to Windsor Castle despite the blustery conditions.

Charles and Camilla embarked on a short meet-and-greet with royal fans waiting outside, and the Queen was gifted a posy from one Windsor local, Kit Bannan, 10.

Another young fan braving the wind to catch a glimpse of the royals was seven-year-old Frank Gates, who had travelled from Egremont in Cumbria and dressed in the uniform of the Coldstream Guards. Performing a proud salute to the monarch, Frank said: "I really want to be in the Coldstream Guards when I am older." His motivations? "Because they are second to none," he said.

After wishing the crowd a Happy Easter, the King and Queen drove back, while the younger members of the family walked up the hill to the castle, where they traditionally enjoy a roast dinner.

Walking alongside her daughter, Kate gave Charlotte a proud squeeze, draping her arm around her shoulder as they joined William and the boys. Princess Anne soon followed, alongside Sir Timothy Laurence, Peter Phillips and his two daughters, Savannah, 15, and Isla, 14, as well as his fiancée Harriet Sperling and her daughter, Georgina, 13.
