Princess Margaret's daughter, Lady Sarah Chatto, pinned her mother's sparkling heirloom brooch to her lapel for the annual Royal Family Easter service at St George's Chapel in Windsor on Sunday.

Joining other senior royals, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, for the festive occasion, the 61-year-old looked smart in an assortment of blues as she exited the chapel in Berkshire with her husband, Daniel Chatto, 68.

Lady Sarah wore a dark navy long woollen coat over the top of a light blue button-down cardigan and a matching blue scarf, which she knotted around her neck to shield her from the weekend's cold winds.

She added a pair of thick, dark navy tights, which poked out from beneath her coat and wore navy, velvet, pointed-toe ballet flats on her feet. The painter accessorised with a wide-brimmed straw bucket-style hat and added the brooch as her main piece of jewellery.

Sitting on her lapel, the circular pin featuring a sapphire in the middle, surrounded by a ring of diamonds, sparkled in the sunshine as she strolled alongside members of the famous family.

The artist inherited the brooch from her late mother, Queen Elizabeth II's sister, when she died on 9 February 2002. Margaret wore the pin for both daytime and evening engagements throughout her life.

Sarah has worn the accessory for a number of occasions, including the Service of Thanksgiving held in Margaret's honour at Westminster Abbey in April 2002, the same year she died.

An Easter Sunday debut

This year's service saw most of the core family members don chic, regal outfits for the annual mass and it also marked the first time engaged couple Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling debuted their blended family.

Princess Anne's son and his fiancée attended the mass with his two daughters, Isla and Savannah, from his marriage to Autumn Kelly and Harriet's daughter, Georgina, from her previous relationship with fitness instructor, Antonio St John Sperling.

The couple, who announced their engagement after one year of dating last summer, revealed they would be tying the knot on 6 June in a private ceremony at All Saints Church, Kemble, Cirencester.

While the guest list is being kept under wraps for now, it is expected that Peter's parents, Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips, will be in attendance, as will his sister and brother-in-law, Mike and Zara Tindall.
