Prince Vincent of Denmark's confirmation on Saturday went smoothly thanks to special assistance from his older brother, Crown Prince Christian, 20. As the eldest child of Queen Mary and King Frederik X, Christian has attended his fair share of official events over the years and has mingled with royals from around the world. For his brother's big milestone over the weekend, Christian was there to lend a helping hand and ensure the young royal followed protocol perfectly.
While waiting for the arrival of King Felipe of Spain at the top of the steps outside the Fredensborg Palace Church, Vincent turned to his brother to ask how to bow correctly. While women will often perform a curtsy, royal protocol for men traditionally entails a subtle nod of the head from the neck rather than the waist as a sign of respect for monarchs. They may also opt for a handshake in greeting.
In the endearing moment caught on camera, Christian demonstrated how low he should bow from the head. Vincent quickly went from the student to the master as he took on his brother's advice and lowered his head and shook hands with the royal in a formal introduction.
Vincent and Josephine's confirmation
Vincent and his twin sister, Princess Josephine's confirmation ceremony at Fredensborg, was officiated by the Royal Confessor, Bishop Henrik Wigh-Poulsen. The young royals were joined for the milestone by their father, King Frederik, their mother, Queen Mary, and their elder siblings Christian and Princess Isabella.
Vincent made a dapper appearance in a navy pinstriped suit while his sister Josephine looked lovely in an ivory confirmation gown by Birgit Hallstein. The teen wore a string of pearls and a crucifix pendant around her neck for the occasion.
The Danish royal palace shared official portraits of the young royals taken ahead of the ceremony at The Chancellery House at Fredensborg Castle. Vincent and Isabella's parents and siblings joined them for a family picture.
Christian's royal role
Christian, Mary and Frederik's eldest son and heir to the throne, has celebrated several milestone coming-of-age moments over the years – including his confirmation in May 2021. The young royal became first in line to the throne after his father succeeded Queen Margrethe as Denmark's monarch in January 2024.
Christian then celebrated his 18th birthday in October 2023 with a lavish gala dinner at Christiansborg Palace, attended by royal guests from around the world. In January, it was revealed that the royal will begin a new chapter in his military training this summer and will serve with the Royal Life Guards.
"The Crown Prince's service with the Royal Life Guard will be as a platoon commander for conscripted privates on call-up duty in August 2026 at the Guard Barracks in Høvelte," a statement from the palace shared.
