Before Prince William became the heir apparent and a father to three children, he enjoyed roaming the halls of South Kensington's Boujis and hanging out behind DJ booths with his infamous brother, Prince Harry.
A hive of A-list celebrities, Premier League footballers and paparazzi-swarmed exits, in the early noughties, Boujis was the place to be, especially if you were a young royal looking for an ultra-exclusive night on the town.
Nestled on Thurloe Street in South West London, the venue has often been described as a "Studio 54 for aristocrats," a nickname former resident DJ Sam Young confirmed was more than accurate based on what he saw during his nights spinning records.
From Leonardo DiCaprio being outshone by Quincy Jones to a surprise Lindsay Lohan cameo in his booth, the renowned DJ, who played George and Amal Clooney's wedding, has been privy to a plethora of starry debauchery.
However, on a bank holiday in 2006, he struggled to believe he was spinning just inches away from the future king of England and his mischievous younger brother.
Prince William and Harry's bank holiday boogie
"They [club promoters] didn't really tell me what it was for, so I just show up, start DJing, it starts getting really busy, more female heavy than male, and then I realised, 'Oh, looks like Prince William and Harry are here'," the son of Richard Young, the celebrity photographer who shot Princess Diana and Kate Moss, revealed exclusively to HELLO!.
Sam continued: "It was that kind of young, posh uni crowd, and I think it was a bank holiday, so it was like a midweek soiree for them. I remember just doing something in the booth, but not paying attention to my right, and then I can see that someone quite tall was hovering behind me, and I turn around and William's there, and he's like, 'Oh, can I request a song?'
"He asked for a random house tune by Mint Royale called 'Sexiest Man in Jamaica,' and horrifically, I didn't have it. So I was like, 'What about Shakedown's 'At Night', which is an absolute classic?'
"This is 2006, but he's asking for stuff that came out like four years earlier, that's obviously still popular at the time. So he's like, 'Yeah, that's fine,' and then he went and partied the night away!"
A royal miscommunication
William's interaction with Sam that night sparked a flurry of rumours in 2011, when it was announced King Charles's eldest son would marry his long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton.
Immediately putting two-and-two together, the British press made a beeline for the celebrity-favourite DJ and assumed he would be the one pressing play on the music at the royal wedding.
Sam told us: "Funnily enough, because of that, when William and Kate got married, the press hounded me. They thought because of the link with Boujis that I would be DJing the wedding."
The professional DJ was away on tour in America at the time, but reflected on further encounters he had with the Waleses across the years.
"They came down to Boujis a few other times after that, and they're all always friendly. Harry's probably more of the jokester out of the two of them.
"I had done a wedding before when they were dating [William and Kate], and they were there together. I've also done an event when Harry and Meghan Markle were there pregnant, but obviously they didn't party - but they were there and made their own quick exit!"
